Oh I understand they are not the same. However, I still won't be trying Tabac. Supposedly Fine is reverse engineered tabac base with fantastic scents so I am satisfied.

I understand what you're getting at. There are plenty of folks who love using straights. There are plenty of others who don't. So long as you're patient, you may get your "ah-ha! moment". Then again, you may not. Since the maintenance thing isn't your bag, you do have one little luxury that most don't have - someone to perform those tasks for you.

I have two straights that I restored, and two more close to being done. I plan on giving it a whirl sometime. There's zero hurry, as it's just another potential rabbit hole. If it's something I enjoy, that means investing in stones and strops. That's all well and fine, I suppose. More so, it comes down to WHICH stones to go with. The opinions vary widely. What I don't want, is to start off with one set of stones, only to wish that others weren't purchased instead, etc. etc. So, there's the matter of research that needs to go into figuring that out beforehand.

You could go the lapping film route. 60 dollars for all the grits you need and a template to place the films vs a few hundred dollars for stones. Lapping films are idiot proof and give you great edges.

We have been having thunderstorms roll through with blazing hot sunshine in between. This weather pattern just makes the humidity even worse.

Wholly Kaw SS & AS - Fougère Bouquet
    PAA Switchback 400 w/Omega EVO 26mm
    Osiris Razors w/buckeye burl scales
    PAA Star Jelly

Fougère Friday, an epic (© @Keithmax) shave today. 2.5 passes, BBS results. Everything about today's shave was as perfect as could be, even with weepers. Saw crimson a couple times during blade rinsing, but the issues never revealed in mirror reflection (yes, I had my glasses on with eyes open! :lyrtuy5:). Incredibly fun, thick slick yogurty bowl lather from the WK SS and Omega knot. A joy to shave with, this absolute behemoth of a straight is near silent while shaving. Despite it's size, that toe works wonders for getting into the small spots. It did it's strop rounds while the face had the first lather on it. First pass, WTG, DFS easily with some right neck/jawline skin stretching, Second lathering and pass, XTG everywhere, no skin stretching, just ever so slight sandpaper left in a few spots along the underside of right jawline. Quick neck lather, some hyper focused XTG buffing, BBS in da bag. Did a fourth face lather (this WK fragrance is incredible to my nose) while cleaning the tools. Quick rinse, a pump of PAA's Star Jelly smeared around, then a few spritzes of the matching after shave splash. Wifey super approved aroma :love055:

Hope everyone has a Fantastic Friday!

Thank you Joe.....Yes, the shave itself ended up fine, but it could have been more comfortable-I think Stoylin Frost Drops are needed in all shaves thru the rest of my summer...well, that is except for those where I finish with Stoylin Glacial Lime A.S. or Osage Rub. Even though I used Aqua Velva today, my face feels a little too warm.

I think it's due to the idea that with the soap being too wet, it isn't strong enough to block out any irritation. My 2nd passes have given me better protection, as the soap becomes drier, thus thicker, stronger then.
