I kind of hoped my numbers would be higher for more play room!. But BBS shaves head and face no/low irritation with just one razor could probably only be done with an adjustable.
August experiment I've decided is best razor in my collection for head, and which for face, so 2 needed and even a third for touchups if I go crazy.
Might even get and learn to shavette face.

With the Wolfman razors I've seen here, I get the allure. The attention to detail of polishing, fit n finish just beats the other mass produced (or even semi mass produced like Blackland that I can compare to) options. Gorgeous razor Clint! Love the setup too.

Awesome greens and blues Gary! And Proraso...mmm.

I'm partial to ones using stiffer blades. Feather, Kai, CJB & and the many clones. With any of the Feather, Kai or Schick Proline blades, 4-5 comfortable shaves is not out of the question.

I only ever tried one that used a half DE blade, and it was 'well used'.....between blade flex, along with the inherent unforgiving 'set down' pickiness, just wasn't my cup of tea. Of course, this was when I first started with open edges, and haven't revisited half DE blade holders since, so maybe that issue would be slightly less now.

That's interesting, and something I've pondered. Reverse engineering a fragrance or soap with something like a mass spec or the like, along with some chemistry knowledge....makes sense with some of the quality artisan clones out there.

    I'll check Amazon.com vs Amazon.ca. Thanks. Amazon.ca is $100 for 3. or $55 for one with a bowl.

Soap does not prevent cuts or irritation from less than optimal technique. However, a wetter lather will make the blade slide easier. Primary DE shavers do not adequately hydrate their soap and they will have more incidences of irritation, etc.

Thank you, Jeff! This was an EBay purchase from my very early straight shaving days. When I bought it, I was fine with it and gave me good shave, but since I honed it, I have grown to like it very much. I know that I sound like a broken record, but it's hard to choose a razor from my 25 because I like them all, even my lowly VDH TTO.

Holy Moly the holders are expensive. I'd like a good one to stay in the collection, so to be omitted from August's experiment. Next month's project. Right now Daddy needs a new pair of power tools. Unless someone can recommend a good handle under $150. I'll check the marketplace and ebay.

Thanks Bruce! It is so true about this razor. By the way, I still have 2 more shaves with the Cryogen (ends Sunday Aug 2) to end my experiment and give a summary.

Parker SRB or any Parker shavette. It holds the blade in place and the geometry makes it easy to find the angle. It is also under 20 dollars so it isn't expensive. I learned on a Dovo shavette, but it is more expensive and harder to handle.

My Parker shavette keeps the blade locked in so that there isn't any 1/2 DE blade flex..

Joe, I was thinking of you when I replied to Joseph...I figured you might have something to offer. I suppose I need to make this hydration more of a habit. The Stoylin Frost Drops, too. Thanks.

Maybe look at amazon.ca for the Shears Direct handle, looks like a Feather clone. ~$26 cdn. The Feather and Kai options do get spendy. The CJB is a popular clone also.

The half blade DE options are much less $$$. The one I used was a Parker SRX (or possibly a clone) that was 'abused' (dropped or whatever). Many rave on the Parker SRX (like @Trigger chimed in). If I was going that route, I originally was thinking the ones made by Focus (made in Italy). They are reviewed well for holding the blade, but also build quality, and they look pretty snazzy to me.

You can also search the past few months of the 30DC threads....look for posts by @Edison Carter @Primotenore @wristwatchb @timabababaluka and you'll see a good many shaves and comparisons and/or info as they chatted about them.

It is ok Paul! We are all here to share our good and not so good experiences so we can learn from each other that will ultimately lead to consistently good shaves.
