Today, I tried a new soap - Dominica Bay Rum. For $6.50 and 5 ounces of a triple milled soap (I think), I figured I would give it a shot. The smell is fantastic. I soaked the puck for about an hour just to break it in a bit. The lather consistency is similar to what I get from MWF but the shave quality is not in the same ballpark. It did perform better than the Col Conk Bay Rum soap with which I started my wet shaving journey. Don't get me wrong, the Dominica worked well and had good residual slickness between passes, but it is not a top tier soap. I did enjoy the overall shave and had no issues while shaving. I did 3 full passess with the trusty Schick E2 which resulted in a BBS finish with no irritation so I will keep the soap in my rotation. I decided to go back to the puck after each pass and truthfully, the lather consistency improved each time and became creamier. Maybe after using it a few times, and I learn more about its best hydration level to achieving optimum lather from the soap, it will provide a better experience. The post shave feel is decent, not drying at all, but just not on par with some other soaps I have. Then again, it is only $6.50 for 5 ounces...

The soap's scent is still fantastic - did I mention that already? The Clubman VIBR is my only Bay Rum aftershave, so it worked for today's setup. I may purchase and try the Grand Bay aftershave since it is also distributed by Merrimack Trading to accompany the Dominica soap.

I apologize for not posting as much as usual been very busy this summer between pt at the recruiting office for the Marines and math tutoring just haven't had the time to post on here. My recruiter wants to send me to MEPS next week so I've been preparing for that. I think once school starts back I will be posting more soon. Hope everyone is enjoying their week! just got bad news earlier this week that my friend just got discharged from boot camp. Apparently he couldn't take the mental stress part of being yelled at. they found something in his medical record because he accidentally told on him self and they gave him a "fraudulent enlistment" He will be allowed to re enlist at a later date if he wants to, but I don't think he will want to. But on the bright side, he has a job working on a farm with his dad.

 

Agreed, Glen does a phenomenal hone.

Fabulous shave Blair. Glen does a fantastic hone. I kind of like the idea of the new mini rule. At some point I may incorporate it into my routine.

Myles, it sounds like you're ready for the next step. As far as your friend, I think it's all for the best that he shouldn't try again for the military. Some people are not made for it and that he should count it as a bkessing. I speak from experience. I tried going in as an officer in the Air Force, but was not able to pass the physical so I was declared 4F. Do I have regrets, somewhat, but I made the best of it and continued with my life.

Thank you, Joe! The ingredients in the bay rum aftershave do give my skin a slight burning sensation that goes away after a short while. Still, I love the scent.

Thank you, Clint! Too bad the Dominica aftershave is discontinued. I'm hoping if I buy the Grand Bay (which is supposed to be their alternative) will smell great like the soap.
