I really didn't need to shave this morning, but I am going out East to gather with friends at one of the vineyards and I just didn't want to have a stubble showing later this afternoon. I usually set my T on 6 which is the max settimg, but I dialed it on 3 because I didn't have much stubble with an under 24 hr growth. I finally finished this disastrous puck and will never look at that slimy mess again. Did 2 passes with minor touchups for a BBS shave. Aftershave gave me a nice extra kick to finish this nice shave. Pictures of today's gear and the empty puck are below. Have a great day guys! 20200808_082303.jpg 20200808_084410.jpg

This morning's shave was fine. 0:30 at the loading dock, getting the Maggard Marble Handle brush set to go. I might have used a little too many Stoylin Frost Drps, as the soap from the first pass went on more moist than usual. It got me a good shave all over, with no issues, but I knew I'd need the second pass. Another good shave all over, HOWEVUH two nicks, each in its usual place just to the side of the lips. Yet the soap did me good. A little extra effort needed to pour out the aftershave(like the soap, Stoylin Blood On Steel "2019". The word "Meetup" should be added to "2019", but of course Doc Ezlovan would have a problem fitting in all the words)I wold think, anyway). Today was the first of 5 straight shaves with Stoylin soaps...2 with one, then 3 with another. Most Excellent.

SOTD SATURDAY MORNING, AUGUST 8, 2020

Another excellent shave this morning! VBBS above the jawline and DFS+ below. I remain in awe of the superb shaves delivered by my Gillette New LC, a razor that was neglected far too long! Remembering how happy I was with the Fine SS New LC homage razor, I will say that the original remains the one to beat! I hadn’t shaved with this razor for months, and had forgotten how efficient it was.

One pass cleaned up around the AA and below the goat! The Rooney brush was a delight to use. It is a face latherer’s dream brush! It has an indescribable almost paradoxical soft firmness that delivered the perfect wet straight shaver’s lather to my mug. And when required, generated a thick protective lather to the noggin. The head shave felt really good, and this superb, vintage shaving tool opened the door to my favorite feeling of clean, cool, velveteen bliss!

RAZOR: Lord 6/8 (Mug), Gillette New LC (Dome)
    BLADE: Polsilver
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a scrub with Rabid Banana Preshave Cube
    BRUSH: Rooney Badger
    SOAP: Mitchell’s Wool Fat w/ 6 drops of M-Bomb
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by Humphreys Lilac WH and Osage Rub. Finished with Cremo Cooling Post Shave Balm.

I applaud your finishing of that tub of Cryogen, Joe! Now you have a nice empty container with which to fill an orphaned puck of soap that has no proper home...
I hope you enjoy your day at the vineyard!

Fine shave report, Paul. I hope these nicks find their way to the door soon. As uninvited guests, they have overstayed their welcome.

That is very well said, Andrew. The reason they appear in the same location, I think, is because the edges of Porcupine Alley(area just below the nose and above the lips)have become hardest to shave off. Calls for do-overs, which call for being real careful, which more often than not I am not. But a nice shave overall, thanks. Blood on Steel aftershave goes on a bit hard at first-takes some to settle down and soften.
