Super shave Paul! The shave soap will never equal the consistency of the goo in the can because you have the propellant (gas) under pressure in the can of goo. As you press down on the valve, the propellant and soap expand and you have more space produced between the soap and the propellant (gas pockets) making the foam. Whipping the soap with a brush will mix air into the soap, but will not be foamy like the can go because the air molecules are squished closer to gether between the soap molecules and therefore, no soap expansion. You will get a nice yogurty lather, by loading heavy and adding small amounts of water at a time until you get the desired effect.

Hey, it's a good song. And...I like Piggly Wiggly stores too. The location near my Mom's house in AL carries more traditional shaving supplies than any grocery or pharmacy I have seen. Items such as Schick injector blades, GEM blades, DE blades, Williams Mug Soap, about 10 different aftershaves and even a full line of Gillette and Barbasol foams (for you, Paul). :shocked003:

Fantastic shave, pic and post Joseph! Last year, I was fortunate to encounter the toe down (inverted stroke) via Eric from Adventures in Wetshaving. My beard on my jawline and neck grows from nose to ear so I use that stroke to go against the grain, otherwise, I would not get that area super smooth.

David, there are several ways of getting a good lather from MWF. If you enjoy face lathering, then you should build a paste up on your brush and apply that to the shave surface. Then wet your brush and lather directly on your face and/or done. MWF is a thirsty soap. MWF is also sensitive to hard water. So your other option would be to get a gallon of distilled water and lather up with that. That works beautifully.

The thing is, Keith, I’m a terrible straight razor shaver! My goal is always a VBBS, and I get that above the jawline. My neck, it seems, is a lost cause. The only positive is that since I shave my dome daily, I always have access to a good safety razor.
