SOTD MONDAY MORNING, AUGUST 17, 2020

Today will be an auspicious day! My new Tradere arrives along with a freshly cut jasper hone. But the best part of my day was my head shave! A good Japanese friend, Toshi, who I used to work with, and is also actively involved in our hobby, sent me a magazine of Schick Twinjector blades when he heard I owned a Supply V2 SS razor. He recommended my trying it for a head shave. Now these blades are much thicker than regular injector blades and were designed with their own blade holder in mind. They can be problematic to load into the traditional models preceding the Type L. He claimed they wouldn’t work with the Hydromagic, but I was able to load a blade in mine with the key.

A head shaver himself, he recommended using the 3 Dot plate on the Supply and manually loading a twinjector blade. I did as he suggested, but did notice that the attachment screw wouldn’t Tighten all the way. In any case, the head shave was every bit as good as my AC razor shaves loaded with a Feather Super. He claims he’s gotten up to 40 shaves on one of these blades. All I know is that the VBBS on my head feels great! Every bit the equivalent of an AC razor shave. There was no difference in feel at all that I could pinpoint.

Ben was over quite early today and honed my Lord straight razor with his barber hone sized jasper stone and water to a gleaming cutting edge. What I found curious was his killing the edge on the face of the stone before beginning. He explained that it removed accumulated chaff from the honing process. Regardless, the shave with the touched up razor was different than I have experienced before. I felt like I was just brushing the lather away. The resulting face shave was the best I’ve experienced with a straight razor. VBBS above the jawline, and just about a VBBS- below that I easily cleaned up With the Twinjector loaded Supply razor. Unbelievably close! I feel cool, very clean and exquisitely velveteen!

RAZOR: Lord 6/8 (Mug), SS Supply V2 (Dome)
    BLADE: Schick InjectorII (Dome)
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a scrub with Rabid Banana Preshave Cube
    BRUSH: Omega Pro48 Boar
    SOAP: Mitchell’s Wool Fat w/ 6 drops of M-Bomb
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by Humphreys Lilac WH and Osage Rub. Finished with Cremo Cooling Post Shave Balm.

Great shaves Jeff! Every time you use a sharp straight razor it gets better each time. Some shavers take longer to achieve great results. You stuck with it and you are seeing why straight shaving is addicting. Besides, it's really a cool way to shave.

I leave the blade in the razor, rinse the head under running after the shave, and place it on the counter top to air dry. After three face shaves, I replace the blade. Works OK for me.

    Excellent shave and report, Jeff!

If I were to try straight shaving, I would have to learn the honing process. I don't want to be dependent on anyone to do it for me. I do own two straights, but my practice shaves with them weren't efficient, so I stuck them back in the drawer...

    Good afternoon guys!

    Shavette Shave #194
    Dovo Shavette
    Personna Hairshaper Blade (9)
    Barbury Synthetic Brush
Chiseled Face Cryogen SS and AS

I wanted another menthol shave today, so I went with Cryogen this time. Did my 4 to 5 taps with the dry brush, then wet the tips and lathered on a dry face. Kept on adding water a little at a time and got an excellent lather. Yesiree, no Vaseline texture on Cryogen ever again! Got a nice BBS- with a minor weep on stache area. No irritation was present. Did have to do extra minor touchups so I decided to bin this blade. I had enough lather after 2.5 passes to just relather without shaving to up the menthol hit. Rinsed off the soap and dried my face. Applied a double hit of the matching aftershave. Simply wow! Have a great day guys!

Thanks Jim! It's easier using my dry tap method with a synthetic brush when loading the Cryogen. I decided that only my synthetics brushes will be used to lather this soap.
