    ETHOS Lavender Suprême~~Simpson Emperor 3~~Pre-War US Gillette Tech/Sharp Star
    Second shave with the ETHOS and I was much more successful creating my lather.
    Much denser (should not be misinterpreted as "dry" or "under hydrated") and exquisitely shiny. The slickness was even better today.
    I eschewed the baby spoon and loaded directly on the soap with a soaked, but very well wrung out brush.
    Picked up plenty of lather. The soap is not so soft that this technique would be unadvisable.
    I removed the residual soap from the top and added it to my bowl.
    What I have found over the years is that one should "clear the breach" of the brush two or three times during the lather-making process.
    I did that adding H2O very slowly and actually ended up using less than I am accustomed to.
    The results were outstanding.
    I can't say enough about the lavender scent. I really only have two "flowery" scents in my soaps, lavender and rose. They are my favorite.
    This lavender is lovely.

    New Sharp Star in the Tech and I can only say that the shave was outstanding.
    Zero issues, zero irritation, zero remaining stubble.
    The Skin Food Splash had some sting, but left my face feeling nourished.
    The lavender scent lasts a good long while.    ​

    You'll begin to notice with various straights that it's not just the edge sharp smoothness you are judging, but the steel. Some are harder than others, and will feel different despite a similar finishing. Grind also plays a part.

    Excellent shave Jeff! I like to say there are 2 extremes in straight razor feel. Harsh/sharp and smooth/sharp with everything in between that runs along the continuum. I find that there's no need to reset the bevel on a harsh/sharp blade. If you are using stones, then I would go back to an 8K, then a 12 K and test it out. Since I use films, I would go 3 microns, 1 micron and then .3 microns with a stropping onCrox. I have never used jasper stone, but you are using it like a jnat. Instead of killing the edge, I would use a medium slurry and then gradually make it lighter until you are at clear water. I am not a fan of killing an edge unless you dropped the razor or hit the faucet or somehow it got a tiny chip on the edge. Disclaimer: I have never used stones, but the foundations of honing or refreshing the edge is the same.

    Outstanding shave, Joseph! I contacted Frank a while back about acquiring a soap and splash set. Didn't pan out. Maybe once he gets his website up I'll give it another try.

    Interesting lather technique. I'll give it a go tomorrow morning.

    Superb shave lineup, report, photo and lather shot, Joseph!

    When I first started traditional wet shaving, I used a bowl and would clear the breach, so to speak. I would just smash my (only) brush down to full splay into the bowl, which I later found to be bad for the brush. Then, in between swirling, I would work it like a plunger into the lather. It worked, but I probably should have watched a few videos before I started...

    Beaudelaire is my favorite Fougere. Reminds me of Brut but different. There's what I would call a sharp green scent mixed in. Pretty good longevity.
