yes sir it is..i am glad i invested the time and effort..something i didn't do all those years ago..i think a lot of us were on the cart hamster wheel,waiting for gillette to bring out a better shaver..

 

You might want to check out the nickshaves YT video on master honer, Howard Schechter, a contemporary of Lynn Abrams. I believe he’s passed on, but his approach is clearly indicated in the video! I winced the first time I saw him do it, but Ben did a seminar with him about the same time the video was made and taught me after I watched Schechter do it in the video. It’s a single stroke that doesn’t kill the edge as much as remove the rough buildup from the honing process. The refining on the finishing stone quickly restores things to a buttery smooth edge. Ben, taught me because I don’t like the super sharp edges he prefers.

I was fortunate to learn from my grandfather, an old wet fly enthusiast. He learned from a WWI Marine buddy, Fran Betters, who ran a fly fishing business on the Ausable River in the Adirondacks. I believe his great-grandson is running it now.

That is a good question, Gary
BAUME.BE is a cream, unusual, albeit attractive scent (no scent choices); less expensive; no matching aftershaves.
The B.BE offers similar slickness and protection. The post-shave nod goes to ETHOS. ETHOS is a very sticky base. Much different than B.BE.
ETHOS creates more of a yogurty lather.
In the end, both are excellent choices and I enjoy the results from both products.

 

I have watched Glen "kill" an edge and he then resets the bevel with 1000K stone.

 

That's too bad, but you spent a great day with your son and that's what really counts.

Well, it depends on how you look at it. Straight shaves give me the best shaves because I can get away without shaving for up to 36 hours before I deem it necessary to do so. Unfortunately, safety razor shaves aren't as long lasting for me. I get more enjoyment out of straights than safeties. However, let me be clear, I believe every shaver gets great results if their technique is right for the razor. I also believe every shaver gravitates to a particular razor type for many reasons. That's why I adhere to these 2 tenets of shaving: 1) Technique trumps tools and 2) It's your shave, do it your way.

 

Well, we need to roast the weenies in the tradition of the Dean Martin Friars Club Roasts. Lol!

 

very cool Joseph,thank you.i am liking the baume.be as i can use near any scent afterwards..fantastic performance.will keep an eye on the ethos products..the smn tuscan tobacco cologne and cream are in my sights but far out of my present budget.as well as not available in canada at present time..it's also best if i use up my present closet full of fine products..

 

Ok, I misunderstood your comment. I would say that you are doing a mild hone job or refreshing the edge. Glad that you're learning how to do it on a stone. I have seen the Howard Schecter video honing one of Dr. Nick's razors. He is located in Mass.
