Just give it time Myles. I had challenges find the correct angle, method for holding the razor, the pressure, if any, with the blade. Over time, you will become more comfortable in all aspects of the shave. It is a wonderful process IMHO.

Myles, that would be correct based on my experience. You will hear the blade “song” so to speak as I slides on the slickness made by the lather. If you have a good soap with a nice glissade, you should not feel the blade scraping against your skin.

    Good point.

I use a ceramic honing rod on kitchen knives. It has a 1000 grit rating. I've seen them at 2k.

I don't sharpen any kitchen knife finer than 1000 grit. A small amount of toothy serrations are helpful in slicing but not shaving.

Razor honing often begins with bevel setting at 1k with finishing at levels finer than 8k.

@myles wilson, Joe @Trigger has gotten where he is happy sharp using abrasive films, I'm sure he'd point you to sourcing options. Do not overlook this possibility, it won't set you back so $teeply.

    Stay sharp.
