Tabac is a 'border line' fragrance for me. It's not bad, it's not great. Very 'flowery', but slightly 'off' til dry down. Yup, read all the comments, supposedly the Tobacco flower, old lady's bottom of the purse...and more. To my nose, more like walking through an arboretum or other public botanical garden where there's many different varieties of flowers all blooming at once in the spring. Some smells are obviously 'flowery', but some are 'decaying'. That's whiffing the bottle. Once dry down happens, it's just a flowery aroma with medium longevity. Wifey likes it well, so it gets to stay.

Soap performance, very nice, but there's the face feel aspect to consider. Face feel was better after I added 3 drops glycerin to the lather. The lather also tended to dry between passes, had to run the brush under water and reswirl a bit in the bowl. Some of this could be attributed to DFW tap water (hard). But.....don't have this issue with many of the artisan or other mainstream manufacturers using same tap water. Maybe next use I'll try with some distilled water.

Fine soaps....I have Fresh Vetiver, maybe I should use tomorrow for a comparison lather, same brush. About time for a Vetiver day anyway....:shaver

very cool Blair..i think very few old school soaps were built for face feel/post shave qualities..different times..it's a nostalgia shave for me..

Agreed, Jason! Tabac is a so what with many, but I actually find the scent offensive! YMMV

yes ,that is an exception, but probably not thought of in that respect at the time, just a result of the lanolin.just like udder balm is great hand cream today..

I share your opinion on the NEWs, Jeff. While there are subtle (or in some cases not so subtle) differences between the various NEWs and New Improveds that I own, I prefer all of them to any later Gillette razor. I have never owned a Fatboy, however, which I know has lots of fans.
If I had to pick a Mt. Rushmore of vintage safety razors that I've tried or own (ed) and had to pick today, I'd have a Gillette NEW (probably the LC) on that Mount. Probably with a Barbasol Floating Head and a Cooper MonoBilt. The 4th is tougher...maybe even an E or G Injector- love those, too.

Yes, it is definitely one of the polarizing ones. I don't find it offensive, per se, but am firmly in the 'Old Lady's Purse' camp. Tobacco and Certs is a thing.
