I like to use the fatboy on 9. I use straight razors and I can shave with my Mad Max which is a 10/8 blade. You need to have very good technique to use it and get great shaves with it. So I will say that I am an exception to your rule. However, I will agree that technique trumps tools and you should get a BBS shave if you want to do so.

I have to say that it is great that someone can vent and still be loved. Anyway, let's all agree that everyone has different standards as to what is a good shave for them. One man's BBS is another's DFS. The good thing about this thread is I get to see other members toys and gear. How you shave and your all around philosophy of shaving sprinkled with everyday life adventures. And yes, the jesting, sharing knowledge and camraderie makes it all great! Now, let's get back to our next scheduled discussion. It's the open forum hour. Lol!

absolutely .i have no rule.the limit to the blade angle is the holder itself..your straight razors are ultimate..you just need to know how to use it..that's my point sir..i just get a giggle when folks say that this razor does this and that one does that..the limits of the razor don't work for everyone..they just hold blades and control exposure..but if one got one for christmas in 1956 no matter what the brand one could get a bbs from it with practice..there is no such thing as the best razor.only what's best for people's efforts ..i see where Chris gets frustrated with stubborn old farts that think they know better..technique trumps everything.the blade holder is the limiter, unless it's an open straight blade.then you are the limiter..i have learned a lot here.. and i learned to get a bbs from many razors people passed over..i don't need meds..others need to do do rules or focus' to tackle the razors that challenge them or they should keep their mouths shut..

True. I might add that they ask for input as to why they don't get the quality shave from a razor. It's really the reason why we are here.

Thanks Jeff! The VAS VC4 performs great. There are days when I like the stiff SE blades, but I'll always go back to DE. ;)

I was just thinking about it this week, but I don't really notice the differences in the blades as much now. Voskhod, Astra, 7O'Clock... or whatever, it seems all that's really needed is subtle adjustment in technique. So, I agree the razor is a tool. Some razors require adjustment and it can take time to learn what to adjust.

The biggest example from my experience is my REX Ambassador. I struggled with it at first but now I really like it. I'm pretty sure I wasn't adjusting properly for the weight. It's a lot heavier than my Gillettes.

Besides, we all know it's the brush that really matters. Aluminum wins that contest every time.

I've got one still in the packaging. They're kind'a hard to open.

I have sensitive skin, so I avoid aluminum brushes. I favor badger and boar hair. I suppose if I worked on technique...or possibly used MWF... :lam:
