Thanks, Joe! Unfortunately, there’s no warning! What will be will be! SWMBO is not happy, but a dozen orange roses this morning cooled her out!

Thank you Joe. I have no interest in starting with a straight razor. I have other hobbies that I would prefer to invest the time and energy.

    That's understandable.

I’m glad the roses worked with SWMBO. My wife just told me I have enough hobbies with the possibility of bloodshed. She said I should spend more time at the range or riding the motorcycle.

You're lucky that you're not involved. It appears to be the rabbit hole for giant rabbits. There's stones, razors with Sheffield, Solingen, Swedish Silver, Russian and, of course American steel. I must say I do enjoy the arguments about honing particularly. There's the lapping films crew, the Japanese Stones crew, the Coticule, Slate, Jasper, Arkansas, Chalcedony, Escher, and a million other variations, most uniqued to particular geographic locales crews. I've learned a lot listening to these guys. I'm sticking with my two stones. I really don't need to purchase anything else, Ben's workshop (approx. 8 miles away) has an incredible rock garden. I can always borrow from him or just work over there. It's quite convenient. As it turned out, my neck cut turned out to roughly be equivalent to a paper cut. So all is well as I slide down the hole! :scared001:

Oh I get the rabbit hole aspect. That’s why I’m reluctant to start going to the pistol range regularly. Before I know it I’ll be back to practicing an hour or more each day, firing 500 or more rounds a week and spending endless hours at the reloading bench. Then the money aspect kicks in. For me it’ll be much cheaper and less time involved to start riding the motorcycle in the mountains each weekend.

Clint, I used to be a nationally ranked Trapshooter. I had my reloading press for shotgun shells, not to mention my 9mm and 45cal reloaders. Dillon Precision loved me. I no longer shoot because of my neurology, and actually am not supposed to be using a straight, but my 38yr old neurologist just shakes his head at me. He's convinced I'm going to seriously damage myself. His argument being that my condition does not improve given current medical technology, but continues to degrade. But heck, if I listened to and followed all the medical advice I've been given over the past 5 yrs I'd be living in a house with foam padding everywhere and using a walker instead of my cane. I really enjoy my current hobby and plan on continuing until it IS NO LONGER PHYSICALLY POSSIBLE FOR ME! That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

    Boar Month - Shave #29
    Straight Razor Shave #385

    Rating: 5 / 5

Razor: JR Torrey Celebrated Hollow Ground
Brush: Brent Jacobson Tamarind and Ebony w/ Paragon 24mm boar
Lather: Stache Soap Works E Barber
    Aftershave: Floid Genuine
    Additional Care:
    Barbero Alum Block
Thayer's Witch Hazel - Aloe Vera
    Stirling Unscented Glacial Balm

A very nice shave on a day of crummy weather. Gradually working towards the Edmund Fitzgerald of this soap. Once again, the use of a boar brush whipped up a nice voluminous lather. The JR Torrey easily took care of a 24 hour growth.

Hope all are having an enjoyable Saturday.

Joe, I always enjoy reading about your kits! I'm a boring old fart who just basically shaves with MWF and a series of unscented AS Splashes and balms. You trip the light fantastic. That Torrey is a beauty. I've read about that brand. It has a great rep. Glad your shave went well. Enjoy your weekend with that great little guy of yours! I'll be praying for your health and safety as you begin the final year of your job.

That’s fantastic Joe. I try to live my life the same way. You’ve had tremendous progress and success with the straights. I look forward to reading your reports each day.

It'a another great shave in the books! I took advantage of this bad weather and decided to get my car serviced. I am still at the shop 6 hours later. Lol!
