How about the blade? I find the Feather Professional Supers to be much more efficient (read: sharp) than my best straight razor. Actually, my scales are made from Scotch Wood. Not exactly sure what that is, but supposedly it's a sustainable tree.

Great shave, Doug! I don't believe that Delta Echo is still in business. There's another shop based on Long Island, NY, North Shore Razor Works, that provides many of the same services that Delta Echo used to. I haven't used them, but they have great reviews. Enjoy your day!

Is the soap "outstanding in the field" (hint-out standing)?

I find the Feather Super to be about equivalent to my straights since I've been touching up the blades in terms of sharpness, but would agree that they are no where near as smooth. Joe (@Trigger) identifies a sharpness continuum with one end being hard sharp and the other end being smooth sharp. I do find that I have to be more focused on lightness of touch when shaving with either the traditional western or kamisori styled Feather SS razors with a Super Blade loaded. The Feather Super probably anchors the hard sharp end of the continuum. I may have misspoken when I said 'Olive' wood. The Scotch wood may be the same handle on the western style DX.

    Happy SEptember gents!

I got way behind last month, and with lots going on right now, the likelihood of keeping pace this month is very slim.
My plan (for as much as I plan anyway - and that ain’t much) is Sample Soap SEptember. Mostly single edge razors and mostly sample soaps. I have an embarrassing amount of samples that need to be worked through. at the very least, to use them and try to polish a few off.

Another wonderful intro from Joseph @Primotenore to kick us off, and some great stories on how some of you landed here.

    Yesterday’s shave:

    Razor - Schick Revere
    Soap - Soap Commander Courage
    Brush - Stirling synthetic
    A/S - Old Spice

The first soap up is Soap Commander Courage. This was sent to me a long time back by Jared, along with many others that will hopefully be used this month. It lathers easy and performs very well. Looks like this chunk of soap will last a few days, even if loaded heavy. The Schick Revere, which seldom gets much playtime, did its predictable “injector thang” and provided an easy, drama free shave. A splash of Old Spice….good to go.

    Today:

    Razor - Gem Junior
    Soap - Soap Commander Courage
Brush - The brush formally known as “Ol’ Shedder”
Post - Stirling Orange Chill WH & Aloe

Fantastic close shave, even with a few weepers. I’ll run this razor again tomorrow. It’s another razor that gets neglected too much, even though it normally gives me mindlessly easy shaves. I think I might have used a little pressure today, not realizing that I was. No worries. Tomorrow is another chance to get it right.

Nice lineup, Evan. I find that if I go a while without using a GEM blade razor, I have to get reacquainted with those shaves too - paying closer attention to angle and pressure.

Great lineup and photo, Blair! Good read on the report too. What makes a razor a Kamisori actually? I thought it meant the Japanese non-foldable types.

I think it's something I did a year or two ago. Given the amount of samples on hand, it's a focus that should probably be done every other month, just to put a sizable dent in them. ;)
