I worked in that supply chain for 32 years, Blair. Cool stuff. Learned a lot. Kept me (mostly) out of trouble and off the streets too.

You get the Scrabble Board, I'll get a half-gallon of ice cream and two bowls, and we'll share war stories. I'd invite @Paul Turner, but he'd hog all the chocolate syrup. Besides, his phone rings constantly...all those girls from Piggly Wiggly calling and texting. :D

Very cool set up, Jason, especially the resin brush handle and razor stand. I'm sure the GEM shaves will improve over the course of the month. I look forward to following your progress.

I'm glad you're feeling OK. We have a telephone assessment tomorrow (day no. 8 of our self-quarantine & doing fine) before we can return to our doctor's office for an appointment. Between my Bride and me, we had ~150 symptom assessments this summer. In addition, my Bride had 6 COVID tests. All negative, but preventive steps everyone on the Mayo campus had to follow. If you didn't have a sticker with the correct day of week on your shirt, you weren't allowed on the campus. This is my Bride with her "Monday" sticker striking her "Rosie the Riveter" pose right after her stem cell transplant. We couldn't pass up the photo op. We walked a half-mile back to the Transplant House after her transplant, so I think she qualifies as a modern-day Rosie. :)

This is her favorite Rosie, and it would be her avatar if she was on TSD.

This one isn't, but I think she gets the point across pretty well.

thank you Joe.i had no issues with the brush.a quick 5 minute soak as i do all boars and a few flicks, quick swirl on the MDC jar and a fabulous face lather.don't know if it was a fully "built to it's potential" lather but was rich and slick..did the job well.no bristle loss ..the american crew hair conditioner i have kills any boar funk present when i treat them..nice bloom and no more "fresh out of the box" look..

    Here is the Feather info.
    grande_featherblades.jpg
The last baked on coatings are platinum and an unidentified resin.

If the final bevel grind is around the reported angle of 20 degrees the edge is truly less sharp than a straight at around 15 degrees. A straight should cut more easily, but that is not my experience.

I have no idea exactly how or when these coatings are degraded, but they do not last.

SOTD THURSDAY MORNING, SEPTEMBER 3, 2020

Thursday has turned out to be a good day. The Genco 35 5/8 was the first straight I acquired after my purchase of the Dovo Special 5 yrs earlier, and the second straight I shaved with. It arrived supposedly ‘shave ready’, but I found it to be a hard sharp blade, which may only have reflected my lack of skill at that point. In any case, it went on the jasper last night followed by a pasted strop, and then the paddle strop. All I can say is that the three pass (WTG, ATG, XTG) shave was buttery and the result gloriously velveteen! The dome shave followed. The Shake Sharp Model 1.5 loaded with two stacked Kai blades performed in its usual exemplary fashion delivering one and 1/2 passes (ATG, ATG) of velveteen bliss. Great way to begin the day!

RAZOR: Genco 35 5/8 (Mug), Shake Sharp Model 1.5 (Dome)
    BLADES: 2 Stacked Kai DE
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a scrub with Rabid Banana Preshave Cube
BRUSH: Alpha Shaving T-400 Tribute w/ 26mm Two Band Badger Ferrule
    SOAP: Mitchell’s Wool Fat w/ 6 drops of M-Bomb
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by Humphreys Lilac WH and Osage Rub. Finished with Chiseled Face Natural AS Splash.
