Thanks Blair. I appreciate the kind words. Anyone who's had a stem cell transplant has my sincere respect. Even in the best case, the recovery is very difficult. Some folks can have multiple transplants, but this will be my Bride's last one. We're praying for a cure before she comes out of remission. Even if there is no cure, we have other treatment options.

 

We were exiting a Mayo Clinic parking garage after a very long day. I handed my parking stub and what I thought was a twenty dollar bill to the attendant.

He said, "eleven dollars."

We looked at each other for an uncomfortably long time while I waited for my change. When I finally figured out I wasn't getting any change, I got irritated and said, "I gave you a twenty. Where's my change?"

"You gave me a ten."

I just laughed and said it had been a long day. I must have looked like I had been rode hard and put up wet. Before I could dig out a twenty, he smiled, handed a me a dollar bill, and I drove away laughing. Kathy just shook her head.

 

Yes, somehow we ended up talking about MAYhem (I brought it up). So I went with it.

I've got my rubber "Yes Man" stamp warmed up and ready to go. I think code requires size 12 flip flops to float a full power strip an a 15 amp circuit. I'll check. I also recommend taping a marble over the reset switch on the required GFCI.

Yeah, those are a good number of the culprits. I blame @Keithmax first though. I bought one of my Drew Dick razors from him in June 2019.....that purchase, fed the fire for artisans talent. Seeing all those guys with the vintage razors fed the other side of watching BSTs. Keith had another comment late last year (that I'm still working on)...more to come.

Thank you for the recognition, but I never think of myself of knowing everything about straight razor companies. I agree with your comments, Blair! I will say that Böker started manufacturing straights in the mid 1800's and later expanded into fixed blade knives. Prior to the mid 1800's they made sabers and were originally toolmakers. Like you stated, Böker is one of the last mass manufacturers of straight razors, but they are still a good quality razor. My KingCutter shaves very well and I am glad that I have it.

For the record....it's Topo Chico (insanely carbonated mineral water). My nostrils hurt.

 

@wristwatchb Sorry to bring up marbles. Hopefully you can borrow one from Joe. I know you lost yours years ago.

 

I admire all the vintage straight razors you gents use. A few years ago, I found this cutlery maker that continues to make pocket knives like those made 100 years ago. I have a couple of the "Tom's Choice" limited edition Barlows. A Russell Barlow was the first pocket knife my Dad had as a kid growing up in the 1920s.

I've absorbed enough amps over the years to be an honorary EE. For the record, my initials are actually EEW, but MrEEW didn't have the same ring to it.

 

Yes, the Feather AC DX I used this morning is the one without the 'lip' in the blade holder transition area. It came with pearl color scales.

I'm not in the mindset with any shavette, be it DE blade or SE blade, will ever shave like a traditional straight. Some are, and that's ok. For my brain, I know it helps muscle memory of the stroke process. There is also some muscle memory crossing of the blade angle and grip. But landings, pressure, control and razor weight, for me, are never the same.

Land a shavette without it moving, there's blood in my world, pure and simple. Happened this morning on my chin. I've never been able to make one move if it lands stationary. Straight razor, exact opposite, but I always go for landings with the blade moving. Thick hairs, it just works better.

The other quality shavettes have for me....hard to explain. They are so light, so sharp, so unforgiving.....they require what I call 'forced control/negative pressure'. You have to have pressure, you have to have movement, and I have to force myself to control both so there isn't a mishap. With a straight razor, it's weight (and blade shape) helps take care of all this, and I really only feel like I'm guiding it around for a shave, rather than forcing it around for a shave. Hope my brain process makes sense.

Thanks, Blair, great information. I, because of my tremors and the weights on my forearms, have been very much focused on a hyper light touch! When I began with my Feather SS, I found what you said to be true for me as well. My fear of injury has served to be a very powerful motivation for lightness of control. No one’s perfect, especially me, but I’m finding that the hyper light touch works well for me, especially with the Feather Supers. My Monsieur Henry Shavette, not so much, more because of blade placement than anything else.
