I have shaved with nothing else since the day I started shaving with a straight. I even set up a rotation of DE's and Straights, but can't seem to pick up anything but a straight razor. I think I have developed a new addiction. Sent from my LM-Q720 using Tapatalk
That is the exact same thing that happened to me! I started wet shaving and collecting DE about 6 months ago which changed my whole perspective on shaving. Recently (4 weeks or so) I picked up a few SR that I honed and stropped myself and now I can't stop using them! I usually shave every other day due to facial hair growth speed but I've decided to take two weeks off to give my skin a chance to heal properly from all the knicks and cuts. My wife thought our kitten got me good on the side of my face but it was really from me getting too excited and not remembering my proper speed and technique with my SR, think of a cheese grater vs face and you'll get an idea
I shave my face with a straight and my dome with a safety razor. I enjoy both tools, but am really enjoying the daily straight shaves.
I'm thinking of doing 3/4 of my face with my SR and leaving my bulbous chin until last and using my DE. I finally broke down and shaved last night and I used just my straight, it took 3 passes and 1 hour until I was finished! I definitely think I need to work on my honing technique because I actually stopped midway through and stropped!
Make sure the edge is sharp enough. With practice, it shouldn't take 10 minutes, tops , to Straight shave.
It took me far, far, far longer to learn honing than it did open edge shaving. Learning both simultaneously is a tall order.
My straight shaves are about 50% longer than my single edge ones. I’ve been shaving with a straight for about 4 years now and, while I have gotten far more efficient, I am highly unlikely to ever match @DaltonGang for speediness.
I am going to have to time myself, but I would say that my 2 pass straight shaves are now taking around 15 minutes...However, after around 30 years of DE shaving I can get a 3 pass done with a safety razor in 5 minutes. In 30 years from now I am going to be amazing with that straight! Sent from my LM-Q720 using Tapatalk
It's not about the speed, it's about your technique and comfort level. Me, I just do a 2 pass shave, and that seems to do the trick.
In 30 years, I'm going to be 86, and I don't know what I will be shaving with. Hopefully, my hands will still be steady enough. .
I'm not that far behind you. In 30 years [if I am still around] I will be happy if I can remember what a razor is and does. Sent from my LM-Q720 using Tapatalk
