I don't have experience in the military, but I've known plenty of people who did have extensive military experience. There was pretty much a consensus among them. They were all glad to be out.

I've got an idea for a highly specialized tool. As far as I know, it doesn't exist. The idea is thus:

Say you have a lot of brush growth near a structure. A weedeater isn't strong enough (even with a blade), and a brush hog is too big. Bulldozer and backhoe are obviously out--too close to the building. You could spray herbicide, but that might hurt other nearby plants, besides, you still have to cut the brush away even after it's dead. Now, an axe isn't really an option, because it leaves about half a foot of trunk sticking out of the ground and loppers are out because even with bending and stooping, you're still going to leave a few inches of trunk sticking up. So here is a rough draft of the design I propose.



Place the trunk of the small bush in the sharpened notch, with the head resting on the ground. Then strike the back of the axe with a sledge, thus lopping the bush flush with the ground.

So, who wants to patent this and sell it to Ames for a few hundred thousand?

it's almost like a large, industrial (dehydratooooorrr) pry bar, really. I do like the idea, would definitely be useful, if you don't have a chainsaw handy (or feel comfortable using one)(in bed)

 

That's the thing... see, you wouldn't want to use a chainsaw because you can't get right at the ground with one... plus, this is far simpler. I'm thinking of calling it the Brush Badger. Whadyathink?
