Your thoughts have had me thinking about your point of view Bill, along with my similar experiences since finding wet shaving, safety razors and open edge shaving. I get it. Makes sense.

I can pick up any open edge, get the right under jawline and neck area (my nemesis area) near or perfect BBS using a WTG pass followed with a slight XTG almost ATG pass. All sorts of angles, skin stretching, and razor holds. No problem, no irritation.

Most every safety razor I own....can’t get that XTG/ATG stroke without it feeling like it’s ripping out the hair. Can swear I feel every strand. We’re talking maybe a 1 inch by 4 inch area of skin.No matter the slickest soap, newest sharpest blade (or not), lightest pressure or angle, it’s just painful. I do pretty well with only the Blackland and Rex brands, but still requires serious attention. It’s probably a just a mindset and need of a longer focus with my other safety razors, but....open edges just get it done easier, and those shaves are slowly getting more and more auto pilot mode.

    .
I have, Joe, just because of my rheumatoid arthritis. Shorter handled safety razors work better for me, although this particular razor has an exaggeratedly long handle. I’m getting there. Today’s head shave was better than yesterday’s, and tomorrow’s should hopefully plant me fully in velveteen land on both dome and mug.

i love the way a short handled gillette picks stuff up on the south/north pass ,especially an old 3 piece.just works like natural..:)

Unless the balance would be off, would choking up on the handle help?

Thanks, Andrew! The handle is much longer than necessary, but I’m getting there. Tomorrow should seal the deal.

I have Sandpiper coming up in a week or so. It's one I expect to repurchase, although I'm sure the A.S. will run out long before the soap.
