Sure wish I could get a 30mm Omega boar knot, Gary, but the reviews I've read on the WD boars are good.
Thanks Bruce. That's sorta what I thought too. A 30 mm boar oughta whip up enough enough Tabac lather for a two-pass shave with enough left over to wash both cars.

Thank you Joe. Yes I’m trying to sink this soap. I will use it 6 days a week until it’s gone baby gone.

That would be cool. If the hole is 30mm I would be looking for a 28mm knot. The knots are usually measured at the base. The glue bump will be wider. So a 30mm knot would need a 32mm hole.

    Good afternoon, gents!
Another drama free shave. Feelin' smooth and fresh.
Let's get to the soap sample, shall we? Black Ship Grooming "Cap' N Dark Side.
Ahhh…the scent. Love it. Being olfactory challenged, I can’t begin to describe the scent, aside for saying I get leather, and….other stuff. Whatever it is I’m smelling, me likey.

    From Black Ship’s website:
Cap'n Dark Side is here & he's going to take your shaving den by force. We blended Leather, ozone, blackberry, amber, and ginger to make this dark soap! Are you strong enough to resist the dark side's force, Only time will tell.?

    On to the shave itself:
Loading and lathering this stuff is a breeze. It just explodes into a nice lather, and does so quickly. Dialing it in is also a piece of cake. It doesn’t take nearly the amount of water as many artisan soaps. Very slick. Zero complaints or issues with slickness.
It's a decent soap. Would I buy a full tub of it? No.
I'm not bashing the soap. Again, it's decent. I was able to complete two shaves in a row without any cuts, nicks, or irritation. Clearly, the soap does what it's supposed to do.
The whole point of samples is for folks to find out if the scent and performance is something they want more of. If you add up all the metrics you can judge a soap on - slickness, cushion, scent, post-shave feel, etc. - this one just doesn't tick all the boxes for me. I want a soap that has "comeback sauce" as Randy @BaylorGator calls it. This one just doesn't have it. The scent is a winner, however I find the overall performance to be middle of the road.

I'll still finish off the remaining sample before moving on to another one.
    Have a great day, fellas!

For once, yes. I don't try to keep up with the Colour Matching Royalty on here, usually.
Might I suggest his red Paladin beehive? We have as much chance of getting that off of him as we would the brass General. Maybe he'll throw in the Floid Blue while you're at it...:happy097:

Awesome shave and photo, Jason! Gotta love a MicroMatic shave. I'll have to try some of the Maol splashes sometime. I remember you saying before how nice they are.

Well played on the color matching. I'm surprised that I actually picked up on that.
Hmmm...yeah, maybe the Paladin. I'll keep an eye on his posts and see what I can con him out of. Or "wait" him out of. We just need to sit back until a new shiny object catches his attention, and try to catch him in a weak moment. ;)
