Excellent progress, Matthieu! Keep at it and you will see improvement soon. Regarding the soap, if you feel that you loaded too much, keep adding water slowly.

Not sure why there's the concern on this. It's better protection than the shaving edge. Straight razors in general have zero blade protection against oxidation, other than the properties of the steel they are made with. A proper maintenance routine, as done for any razor, and I have no question this razor will outlast me.

If I remember your posts about your pre and post shave blade care, longevity would be the same.

It’s definitely a cool-looking kami, Blair! Do you know much about his traditional folding razors? I saw one on his website where half the blade was coated. Not my cup of tea. Does he do non-coated blades, or do you think he would remove the coating on a razor if asked, and not be offended?

I've been corrected, but in my expert opinion, it could go either way(chuk yuk yuk)

Just bought a new alarm clock. Tiny mama, but it has LED lighting for the time.

Derek has been nothing but accommodating in my experience. I've done a complete custom with him, where he took my drawing and turned it into a kamisori (the big smiling blade with blue leather wrapped handle I used Friday). A couple I've worked from his design, changing an idea or two to finished product. 3 are straight off his ideas and on Etsy or eBay over the past year and a half. 6 total now, 4 delivered over the weekend.

Tomorrow I will be shaving with an example of the razor you are referring to, Takefu Laminated Japanese steel. We changed a few things (scales & hardware) to be a little more colorful. In the Etsy description, he talks about being able to do the razor blade with or without the lamination.

One thing is required....patience. He produces great quality razors with great materials and workmanship in my opinion, at a very affordable price. That is worth the wait for me. This last project was 4 razors, about 4 months. Looking at some of his candid images he sent to me along the process, he's thoroughly busy with others' razors. I am nothing other than a paid customer and fan of his work.

Derek and I have one razor to go. Hopefully late this year or early 2021. A project @Keithmax planted the seed for long ago. A unique 7 day straight razor set, each being not only from one artisan, but every razor a unique piece of his skill & work.

    Salut Joe !

Thx for the advice. I will try to master the ATG pass after I am familiar enough with my shavette, that should actually be enough for what I want.

Also I have a question, for the hair that are really close to the nose, what kind of angle do you use ?

It's an oblique ATG stroke with a more shallow angle that is almost flat to the skin.
