An interesting thing about the PAA DOC Ascension is the amount of curve it puts on the blade, as much as the RR BBS, which states that as its most stand apart feature. I'll see if I can figure how to put up a comparison pic tomorrow. So the blade angle at the skin is only 30 degrees or so. However, it is more aggressive with much more blade feel than the BBS.

Todays ATT S2 shave has me breaking out the alum and Nivea after shave. I may have to take a non OC day or two, or two pass shaves.

    Thanks.

B&W with "color splash" effect is my fav technique.
I love details of B&W, and colors are so vibrant over the greys.

Nice shave and cool photo, Daniel!

Vostok watches have a dedicated following in the US too. Using influence skills that I learned from @Keithmax, I assisted @NCoxSTL in acquiring one. They are cool watches, and I may eventually grab one just for fun. Guys, whatever you do, I plead with you not to look at them here.

Today's shave is dedicated to one of our newest members, @Mattay

I thought that it might help to give you a pictorial description of a lathering technique.
Buckle up. We're off to the races.

    1) The tools. Soap and soaking brush.
    IMG_5560.jpeg
    2) Put some water on the puck. (Omit if using a cream or a soft soap)
    IMG_5563.jpeg
    3) Pour off water
    IMG_5564.jpeg
    5) Squeeze out excess water from brush
    IMG_5562.jpeg
    6) Start to load.
    After 30 seconds
    IMG_5565.jpeg
    7) After another 30-45 seconds, I move to the bowl and use my finger
to gather up the soap from the container.
    IMG_5566.jpeg
    8) Now I start to whip the soap.
    (after about 45 sec)
    IMG_5567.jpeg
    9) After another 30-40 seconds. Note: I have NOT added any water at this time.
    IMG_5568.jpeg
    10) Now I clear the breach and add 5-6 drops of water, as well as a slight dip of the
    bristle tips in some water.
    IMG_5569.jpeg
    11) Finishing the process, you can see that the lather is looking shiny.
    IMG_5570.jpeg
    12) Finished product. Slick, stabile and ready for a great shave.

Arianna & Evans SS & AS - Kaizen
    Zingari Man After Shave Balm
    Evan's Green Machine w/Simpson Trafalgar T2
    J3Customs 8/8

@MrEE's green machine....polished up a little (car wax and rubbing cloth)...super green shiny now. Loaded with the Simpson T2....it's a face lathering fun. Removing the T2 from the original Simpson handle, quite the task with a Dremel, but so worth it. Mounted a little 'higher' in Evan's handle compared to the Simpson, it loses a little of it's stiffness, splays easier, but still a nice 'scrub'. Awesome face lather from A&E's new base, Kaizen. Super slick, loves water, great face feel.

J3Customs scaled razor today, a first for me. The others I've used have been Kamisori style. This example uses Red Ruby Kirinite scales. Made with Japanese steel, it's laminated on the back half of the tang and front half the blade. Creates a unique blade look, but also shows off the layers of steel, a very cool effect in person. Inset images are some of the super details Derek puts into his work. Brass spacer & pins, but stainless steel washers. Hard to do this piece of artisan work justice in images with a cell phone camera, may take some time to really 'studio it' for the next shave. Shaves extremely nice, it's a quarter hollow grind, superb balance using traditional hold techniques for scaled straights. Smooth shaving with Japanese steel, can feel the difference versus his more commonly used 01 Tool Steel. The Japanese steel feels more like shaving with a wedge (quiet, all business), while the 01 Tool Steel feels very similar to shaving with Solingen steel blades (slightly 'edgy' and louder). 2.5 passes for a nice BBS-. One very slight chin error, small mind wander with the background music during a set down. Oh well, not a distraction at all, no extra care needed as it quit the crimson flow on it's own.

Finished with ZM's after shave balm followed with A&E's Kaizen after shave splash. A very nice fragrance from A&E Grooming, but fades a little too quickly for me. Kaizen's Scent Notes: Mandarin, Calabrian Bergamot, Lemon Peel, Neroli, Honeysuckle, Green Apple, Rose, Tobacco Absolute, Haitian Vetiver, Sandalwood, Cedarwood.

Hope everyone has a Terrific Tuesday!

SOTD TUESDAY MORNING, OCTOBER 6, 2020

This morning’s shave featured my H. Boker & Co Cast Sheffield Steel razor, newly returned yesterday from its beauty treatment in the highly skilled hands of Glen Mercurio (@gssixgun). I can’t believe it's the same 150 yr old razor. The blackened, chipped blade with the age-oranged scales have been transformed. Glen recovered the blade etching and returned the scale color to its original ivory color. And the three pass (WTG, ATG, XTG) shave that scooped up the slick, purposefully thin MWF mug lather was extremely smooth and comfortable. I’m really developing a warm feeling for Sheffield cast steel razors. Or maybe it’s just something about the way mid 19th century straight razors were created?

The Viking Silvertip Badger whipped up a very different consistency of MWF lather for the dome shave, slick, thick and yogurty. The Christopher Bradley fitted with its OC D plate cleaned away the dome stubble in a slow and luxurious, two pass (ATG, ATG) shave knocking it off right at the skin line. Lather consistency matters a great deal, depending upon the shave tool selected. Thin, slick lathers are my preference for straight shaving my mug, whereas a thicker lather seems to work better for my noggin shaves. The post shave skin feel MWF and Nancy Boy provide can’t be beat.

Pannacrema Nuavia Blu and yes, even Tabac, provide a similar, slightly sub par post shave experience, but they stink too much for my taste. The scents I prefer in a shave soap or cream are lime and lavender, thus my affection for the two Castle Forbes creams featuring those scents. My preference is always for a nice, clean, soap smell, or an AS/balm with scent fade. This, of course, puts me at odds with probably 95% of all other wet shavers, but my response will always be, “de gustibus non disputandum”, my version of YMMV. This morning’s shave left me feeling clean, smooth and velveteen!

RAZOR: H. Boker & Co. Cast Steel 5/8 (Mug), Karve Safety Razor D-OC (Dome)
    BLADE: Sharp Star DE
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by Argan Oil
    BRUSH: Viking Silvertip Badger
    SOAP: Mitchell’s Wool Fat
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by Humphreys Lilac WH. Finished with Alt-Innsbruck.

Thank you very much, I really appreciate it !

I will try to put some water on my Proraso soap next time, I didn’t do it last time before loading. Maybe this technique will help me get a a better lather next time.

Also because I use a brush with synthetic hair I don’t think I really need to soak the brush in my bowl from what I read, like putting it under a tap of hot water for like 10 seconds should be enough I think
