Yeah, I'm kinda gonna miss the ol' vie ery. I liked to go in there occasionally and stock up on their "previously viewed" movies at deep discounts. I could usually count on them to have a movie or two that I couldn't find on the shelves of our local stores. Like I said before, that foreign movies section is calling my name. A friend of mine is a regional manager type for MG-- or was, I guess, and she said that Redbox actually helped their business. People were getting scratched discs and it takes about 3 to 4 days to get it straightened out, apparently, so they would get fed up and just come to rental store. She said they'd also get tired of the redbox not having enough copies of new releases, while Movie Gallery always had umpteen brazillian copies of popular new releases. Older movies are also a big draw for a brick-n-mortar store.

The main reason TWGW and I don't rent very often, though, is because we just buy most of the movies we see now. I've seen enough movies in my life that I can predict with almost 98% certainty whether I will want to own a movie or not, without having seen it first (chances are, if I'm willing to watch it, I'll probably want to own it). Between the $5 bin at Walmart, the $3 bin at BigLots, and the occasional fortuitous trip through the movie section at Game Xchange, it's hard to justify paying nearly $6 for a rental. It doesn't help that my tastes veer toward the more eclectic side of movies.

Wife has us on Netflix. None of the things I ever want to watch are on their network. I have looked at the RedBox/Block Buster machines and like you said, they have a small number of somewhat new release movies. Nothing that exciting is ever in and certainly nothing more than a few years old.

By the time you pay your membership fee at a rental place, pay for the rental, return the rental, deal with the hassle of the usually poorly planned parking, gas, etc... I would just rather buy it. But then again, as I really don't watch any movies my opinions should matter less than a hill of beans.

Going offline and unplugged for the weekend. See you all for a day or so on Monday/Tuesday before the long unplugging.
