Just measure the full interior height of container, subtract handle height and finish loft height needs to be less than the difference.

I removed a knot from another brush for this Ever-Ready brush. The ferrule of the Ever-Ready is a bit out of round on top, so I decided to keep the metal ring of the donor brush. It fit perfectly and looks pretty good on it. I put some stain on the handle, but I didn't want to fully restore it and left a little bit of wear on it..............

Here's something thats driving me crazy ...... I have a Rubberset (same shape and style) that I can't find. :shocked029: Need to do a brush clearance sale.

BTW that one is pre 1930.

I love it that you left the old school charm in that beautiful brush, Jim.

This handle was included in a lot I got a while back. It's the first Wontshed brush I ever got, and maybe @Enrico can chime in here because I don't know how many are around. Since it was hollow, I added BB's with epoxy between two layers of soft foam. I cleaned up the stains by using a well worn very fine sanding sponge. I cleaned up the letters by using the sharp end of a wood screw to remove soap scum and added black paint. And did a slight polish to the handle before adding the new boar knot.................

Well Jim ...... earliest patent I find for Wontshed is 1921/22 and a advert for 1927, but I suspect your brush is from the 50's since it looks to be made by blow molding. It's very similar to brushes made by Century, Hardright, Rubberset and even Dubl Duck; though I know Century has a model extremely similar.

That all said; I wouldn't have done anything differently ..... the epoxy and bb's will strengthen it in case it's ever dropped and definitely makes it feel more substantial.

:happy096: Great work! Looks like a real keeper.

    BTW your lettering looks aces!

Thanks Keith, I actually thought it was a Century brush when I saw it. I had restored one not too long ago. I sold that one, but I'd like to have this as a keeper, mostly because I haven't seen a Wontshed before, let alone have one. Barbershop type brushes are my favorites.

I don't mind having chips in brush handles as they can easily be filled in. But on this Ever-Ready brush, there happened to be one at the beginning of the letters. I did remove the original knot saving it's ring, but didn't have a knot to fit. So I removed a knot, with it's ring, from another brush. I decided not to add the silver band on the handle because I think it looks better without it...........
