SOTD WEDNESDAY MORNING, OCTOBER 28, 2020

Took my newly acquired Shumate 5/8 razor for its first shave this morning. There were some serious chips mid edge that had apparently sidelined this razor. Shumates were made in St. Louis from 1901 to 1932 until the first few years of the Great Depression killed their business. Owners seem uniformly positive, however, about their shaveability. After some serious bread-knifing on my 320k DMT steel diamond plate the chips were removed. After bevel set and finishing on my jasper stone, hairs were a poppin’. Following a good soaking of the CK6 Scentsless soap in concentrated organic Peppermint oil, my JR Rosewood Two Band Badger generated a decent lather, not MWF quality, but acceptable. Although small and light in hand, the shave went very well! I like this razor. My NOS Gold MMOC sheared away my dome whiskers in complementary fashion. I feel velveteen smooth, cool and clean!

RAZOR: Shumate 5/8 (Mug), NOS MMOC Safety Razor (Dome)
    BLADE: Astra Platinum (1)
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by Argan Oil scrub
BRUSH: JR Rosewood Two Band Badger
SOAP: PAA Scentsless CK6 w/ Concentrated Peppermint Oil Added
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with Glyce Glycerin soap followed by Humphreys Lilac WH. Finished with Osage Rub.

Sorry Gary, I just deleted that, but I see you brought it back to life. The "everything minus one" was in reference to the act of picking off a cookie from Charlie's try, so as to foul up his total number of cookies for the customers. But you're right-off days happen in shaving.

Nice fun image and report Danny! Great experiment.

No cuts or Knicks is a good thing Paul! SDE result not bad at all.

Great results on bringing back the Shumate's edge Jeff. Love that brush handle.

Vintage Williams~~dubl duck #4~~dubl duck Goldedge~~J.B. Willams Aqua Velva
Abandoned the open comb focus for the rest of the month.
I hadn't picked up a straight for almost 4 weeks, so it was due.

Nothing screams Wednesday better than Williams, so natch, that was my soap o' choice.
The tallowy goodness, infused with menthol crystals, really worked itself into a lather:

I applied the first layer of soap and let it set in whilst I stropped the Goldedge.
Kept it pretty simple, just 40 laps on my first, well-knicked strop.
Side note: I was duly warned by my fellow Dark Siders not to drop serious coin
on a good, first strop, but did Primo listen :signs002:
    :rolleyes005::rolleyes005::rolleyes005::rolleyes005::rolleyes005::rolleyes005::rolleyes005::rolleyes005::rolleyes005::rolleyes005::rolleyes005::rolleyes005::rolleyes005::rolleyes005:
    No, he did not. :innocent

Nevertheless, the strop functions as intended, just won't win any beauty contests.
So, how much technique did I lose after this 4-week
    hiatus :signs002:
    Surprisingly little. :happy036:
A few awkward set-downs to the right of my goatee left some temporary marks.
Other than that, I successfully removed the 72-hour stubble.
The Aqua Velva aftershave is a real throwback to the "good ol' days".
Outstanding scent. Clean, crisp and...masculine. :happy088:
