What’s your favorite game in the casino and why? My personal favorite game is craps; it’s my favorite because it’s the only game where the player is responsible for the outcome. You can’t shuffle the cards in blackjack/poker, you can’t spin the ball or wheel on a roulette table, but you can roll the dice in craps. Also craps has, supposedly the best odds of all the casino games for the player with a 1.41% house edge on the pass line/come bets. Roulette has a house edge over 5% and slots have an edge around 8-11% depending on the machine.

 

Not to disparage fans of games of chance, but if I am going to throw my money out the window, I would rather throw it at some shaving gear. At least I will have something to show for it.

Personally, I prefer live Texas Holdem Poker, The house has no advantage 0%, but it does have the rake, which eventually will take all the money off the table. The only reason the game keeps going, is that, players leave regularly and new money comes into the game. The percentages, always favor, the skilled players and luck!

As far as table games, my favorite and the one, with the lowest odds, favoring the house, is Blackjack. The house advantage is actually slightly less than 1%. If your smart and can keep count, over a short period time, even with multi-deck shufflers, you can give yourself a slight advantage, for short periods of time.

Favorite game? I work far too hard to bother. I played $10 while doing some training in Reno, but that was the extent of it. I also won $10, so I came out even.

I dont like gambling. But, back in 1991, I got married in Vegas. We flew there, stayed 5 nights at the Flamingo Hotel. After every expense was paid for, I came home with $2500 more than what I started with. Slots, and Blackjack. It all left a bad taste in my mouth. Both that marriage, and the gambling.
It was 27 years, until I went back, and I didnt gamble one penny. I just hit the Bellagio Buffet, with my son, and did a lot of walking. My son wanted to gamble, but he was too young . It is way to family oriented now, and crowded.

 

I am not a big gambler, and the last time I was in Vegas, (2016) I decided I will never go back.

There are no free drinks, no free parking, no more cheap eats.

But if you do go to Vegas, and you want to gamble, try Baccarat.

 

I supervise table games at a casino, and usually wager on horse racing when I'm in Nevada. If there's no race book, I'll usually play poker.

Playing table games that I supervise 40-50 hours a week feels too much like being at work.

And if in Vegas...go to the shows, attend the concerts, see the sights, and do the things you can't do anywhere else. Otherwise, why bother spending the airfare to get there if all you're gonna do is gamble? There are casinos from coast to coast in both the USA and Canada. And, besides, the days of cheap or complimentary parking, dining, and lodging for us regular guys on the Vegas strip are long gone.

When visiting Vegas, I always stay downtown. One thing I've been doing in downtown Vegas for years is raiding the nearby pawn shops. People pawn some really good stuff in Vegas, and there are deals to be found.

 

I'm not a gambler (unless you count taking a chance getting out of bed in the morning), but we've been to Las Vegas several times. There's much to see in and around town. Red Rock Canyon is fun, and it is a relatively short drive to see the Hoover Dam and the Grand Canyon.

We even visited a shop in Old Town LV that sold used slot machines and other items retired from the casinos. A friend with us wanted one for his man cave. I may try to visit the pawn shops next time.

 

Course it isn't just Las Vegas. The Reno airport itself has lots of machines.

 

My gambling history could have been better. At my first ever "Preakness Day", I got $70 on the very first race of the day. I should have gone home to watch the Preakness on TV!! Nah, I decided to wait it out. Besides, there was also the "Black Eyed Susan Stakes" (it's a famous drink there). Did I win more than I bet after that firs race? Below you'll see my answer.

For the record, it is possible to make money over the long haul by playing poker skillfully, or blackjack masterfully. The time, effort, and money commitment required to do so, however, may completely remove the element of fun from the equation.

I could do it for a living, but it would take 80-100 hours a week working nights and weekends, and the benefits package to that job sucks: there is none.

 

It's always fun to discuss favorite games at the casino, even if the thread is a few years old. My personal favorite is also craps! Unlike other table games, you can observe the game for a bit before jumping in to get a feel for the hot and cold numbers, and wager accordingly. If the the table is hopelessly cold and not worth playing, you'll figure that out in short order, too.

Some casinos pay 2:1 rather than the normal 9:5 on Place bets on the 4 and 10. At 2:1, there is no house edge at all.
