Everything this morning was identical to yesterday's shave except I used the E plate in the Karve instead if the C plate.

Did this make difference? Definitely yes. These two razors are so close now on blade feel the difference is negligible. I am really having to try and pick these razors apart they are so close in performance. The Karve may be a little and I mean little smoother and seems to glide slightly better. The angle is easier to keep on the Karve as well. Other than that I see no difference in the shaves. Both of these bad boys can take care of business and did this morning.

The Figaro was like cool whip this morning. No splash or cologne this morning. I have a doctors appointment to following up on blood pressure and they have a sign ....... no Cologne or perfume.

The final round of the battle of the brass will be in the morning so stay tuned. I hope you are enjoying the battle and it has been informative for you.

Final shave of October with one of the razors I had before I joined 30DC. It's a carbon steel Dovo so what else can I say. It works well. I got a wonderful 3 pass shave with no blood or irritation. DFS for sure.

I'm not sure how I feel about the Son of Zeus fragrance. It's nice for a change but not a daily scent.

Looking forward to a No Rules November

Pre:

Cold wet flannel to my face.
Simple ~ Sensitive Bar Soap + Nuage Menthol shaving Oil.
Brush: Unbranded Chinese Horsehair.
Face Lather.
Soap: Chinese Cologne Soap.
Blade: Indian Gillette Wilkinson Sword Saloon Pack. (2)
Razor: Merkur 34c.

Cold Water Face Rinse./Homemade peppermint lavender eucalyptus, + Tea Tree essential Oils Witch Hazel Mixture./ Duru ~ Turkish Mandalina-mandarin Cologne./Aloe Vera Gel.

A relaxing Sunday morning shave.

I was curious to try the Indian GWS blade in a less aggressive razor paired together with the Merkur 34c was a comfortable duo, which to be honest i wasn't sure if it would have worked but it did feeling comfortably smooth and efficient with each pass.

Another very comfortable 3 pass + pick ups near BBS shave with no errors to report...Finishing the shave off with a small dollop of Aloe Vera Gel.

My face is feeling silky smooth & smelling divine.

Time for the comparison shave between my Gold Dollar (Black) and the Crescent City (Blue) Gold Monkey. Slash McCoy (@Slash McCoy), honemeister and practitioner of the “Method” - a lapping films honing approach he references on his Crescent City Razors site - purchases Gold Dollar razors in bulk and hones them for resale so they are truly ‘shave ready‘. Slash has a great reputation for the stellar shaves his rehoned razors deliver. I purchased a $5 Gold Dollar razor on Alibaba and reset the bevel on a Shapton 1k and then finished the edge on my jasper stone and a pasted strop followed by a leather strop. Being retired, I spent a fair amount of time going back and forth between the jasper finishing stone and my USB microscope to ensure I arrived at the smoothest edge I could.

I then decided to shave each side of my face with a different razor. The result was a simply splendid shave. I was unable to determine which razor was preferred. They did shave differently. I was able to determine that Slash’s reputation is well earned. His razor shaved cleanly on my favored dominant (left) side. I will say that on the sharp continuum his razor was a harder sharp than mine, but I’m sure he didn’t spend anywhere near the amount of time I did going back and forth between the USB microscope and the jasper stone until my edge was gleaming. The shave on the right (non-dominant) side of my mug felt just a tad smoother, but that may also reflect wish fulfillment on my part. In any case, I have no problem wholeheartedly endorsing Crescent City razors! They’re well worth the price and a great starter razor for the new straight razor shaver looking for a cost-effective dependable starter/learning straight razor.

My dome shave featured one of my two early production (1905) silver plated Gillette Old Type safety razors. These razors have tended to be neglected due to their weight in hand. However, the three lb weights on my forearms make that issue moot. I generated two types of lathers for my morning shaves. I prefer a thinner, wetter lather for my mug straight razor shaves, and a heavier, yogurty lather for the noggin. My MrEE Monster Tuxedo Synth was happy to oblige. It’s a fabulous MWF lather machine, and easily generated both types of lather. It’s huge soft knot has great backbone and made lather generation a joy. I face latherEd my mug and bowl lathered my dome. Generating the thicker dome lather is better suited to the bowl method, but the application with this huge knot just felt great. I feel clean, velveteen smooth and quite refreshed.

Well the moment of truth has arrived! It's my first open blade razor shave since my eye injury last Sunday. What better way to celebrate my complete healing with using my Mad Max! It's my biggest razor and if I can shave with it, then my eye is truly, truly fine.
Everything worked well. I did 2.5 passes with minor touch ups for a BBQ shave. I didn't lose and blood and there wasn't any irritation. I took a little extra time just to be a little more cautious and to enjoy the shave a little longer. Applied a liberal amount of the aftershave and there wasn't any stinging. I enjoyed the end of daylight savings time today. I appreciated the extra hour of sleep. I am not sure Mocha agreed or understood. I plan on spending the time to fully dial in the Pils razor. The shaving angle in different from most of my other razors and it has a narrow sweet spot. I used the PAA Chel as a preshave and added B&M Terrorade to the bowl as I lathered. My face is still filling the chill. Three passes and touch caught the baby but I did have to really work buffing several spots to get the results. Hopefully this will improve over the coming weeks. A splash of Green Vetiver followed by a spritz of Guerain Vetiver left me smelling good. I hope everyone has a great Sunday.

Ah November has arrived. The month of one of my favorite holidays growing up, “National Get Fat Day”. This is especially true on an Italian household. It is not your traditional Thanksgiving. Yes, there was the traditional part surrounded by the Italian multiple courses.

Today’s shave is a continuation of part of my goal to sink this soap, hopefully by the end of November. I had another wonderful shave, three passes of smooth ecstasy. Love the shaving time where no one interrupts the process. End result = the missus loves the smoothness.

Software, while technically is a no-variation, will have lots of variation.

Now, you all may be wondering, why only two Bay Rums soaps?
Good question and, as you might have already guessed, I have a good answer.
Finding a nice Bay Rum scent is easy.
Finding a nice Bay Rum scent AND a good soap base...not as easy.
For instance.
Mystic Water: Love the soap...hate the scent.
Ogallala: Love the scent...hate the soap.
Turtleship Shave Co.: Love the soap...hate the scent.
Here's a REAL kicker:
Dominica Shave Soap (yes, the same company as the revered aftershave): Adored the scent...WORST shave soap ever.
I am sure there are others, but for my particular tastes, Mike's and Barrister & Mann are the best.

Today, I chose Mike's and the C.O. Bigelow.
For those unfamiliar with the Bigelow, it is a zero-clove scent. Warm, smooth and pleasing.
The Mike's lathered wonderfully with the Rooney.
Excellent three-pass shave with the National.

Good morning!

Woke up way too early this morning but was able to eat breakfast and get a nap in before sunrise. Finally got around to shaving and what a great shave it was. This beautiful tool has only been used three times before today. Good amount of blade feel that works best for me with a shallow angle. Three passes for near BBS. Nearly silent alum.

I'm trying to figure out how to best spend my day off. All day football from the couch sounds really good but man, there's a lot of leaves on the ground out there and my next opportunity to clean them up is likely two weeks away. It's nearly 50° out. Yeah, I'll go out and get some work done then spend the afternoon on the couch.

A quick 2 passer earlier today.
Last month I made a handle for my aluminum V2 Hawk. I actually showed rare patience (for me, anyway) and held off giving it a go until OCtober was over. It is rosewood and worked out well enough for a first attempt at turning something like this. The finish isn’t good enough, so I’ll sand it out and do a thin 3rd coat. Don’t think I’ll keep it though. I usually make a turning for the TSD raffle and this razor seems like a good choice whenever that may be.
The Autumn Glory was a good choice to go outside to change over the tires and rake leaves.

The shave was a 2+ pass BBS with a small weeper on my chin. Nothing worth mentioning really, but honesty is what honestly is. Alum did the trick.

I am use to much bigger knots on my brushes lately. I actually had to load a little more soap on my second pass.

I've done some plating this weekend and decided to check the pH on my nickel bath. It was a 6, but its suppose to be 3.5-5. So I added a couple teaspoons of boric acid and now it's at a 4.4. Plated a couple test items and the performance is right back where it was. Fun times.

I'd like to say no blood no issues, but....

Now on the face and gord I got a great issue free shave.
Nice, clean and smooth just as I like.
But the final rince on the gord I was greeted to leakage, more than I've known of for quite a long time. Not using a mirror I felt the gord and inspected my hand for signs of the red stuff.
Nothing to my surprise.
I felt around some more, ha! My ear!
Not where you would suspect, around where you shave.
No, not there, but on the outer part of my ear.
Seems while I brought the razor up to position I grazed my ear.
With this open blade just touching any part of the skin incorrectly can cause leakage.
I got the bleeding stopped easily.
No problem, it looked worse than it was, very monor.
But the ears bleed a lot, and being on blood thinners helps the leakage.
Just a little red mark the wife says.
Anyway never to be deterred, I'll use the same razor tomorrow!
A new blade, as always.
This is the hazards of the job.

November already what!? Bring on the cool weather and warm grub. That vegetable soup was great tonight. Anyway here's tonight's shave. was not too keen on this Armani Code release, but it has grown on me. Very pleasant warm Tonka bean. Would have been cool if they added cardamon to this fragrance, but still good as it stands. shaved with the TOBS Tobacco leaf, really nice Gourmet scent that matches with the EDP.

He is about to finish it up and he even restored the runner planter and fertilizer unit. He is headed to a tractor show in a couple of weeks. A few touch up and it will be finished.
