    Ugh.

Wife has to report to jury duty. She's the type who gets picked. Pay day isn't until Thursday, and the bank account is as barren as the cupboard. Next week, we're scheduled to visit her mom. All that means all kinds of stuff to do around the house and groceries to buy and bills to pay. It's probably the busiest week of the month, and now she's got to go to jury duty. She's terrified she'll be picked, and have to serve on a jury, thus throwing everything into chaos. I'm ill equipped to console her on something like this. Don't know what to say, or what to do. I really need to be at work right now trying to get everything done before teachers come back in a couple of weeks. If I go back to the office, I'm a jerk. If I stay home, I'm a jerk for just sitting here doing nothing. If I knew what to do, I would.

    AAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHH!

    dude. that sucks!

any chance there won't be any need for a jury that day? I got a notice to appear for jury duty, called the day before and found out I didn't have to go in.

if she does have to go, then is she comfortable with exagerating a little? she might go in and talk about how she's a Christian and how she can't vote certain ways because of her religious belief (modify to adapt to her personal views, but an example would be no death penalty, etc...) The goal would be to emphasize the strength and rigity of her religious belief, such that they'd want to disqualify her and pick someone who's more flexible. I am not saying she should lie, but rather emphasize and even exaggerate certain qualities to make herself appear unattractive as a juror...

She's not comfortable doing something like that, unfortunately. And she does have to report. So does Profsaffel. Rigidity of belief is pretty much the norm in these parts. Thanks for the tips, though.

That doth sucketh mucheth...of course, I already knew that somehow...
(well, didn't know Doug did, too)

if your not of rigidity of belief, you're escorted out of Distraction....and then given the death penalty :D
okay, it's not that rough, or so I've heard....

Okay, some people just don't get it. Check out the comments on my fake iPad nano commercial.

Be honest with me gang, is really that unfunny, or are these guys just so thick that they can't recognize the irony? I realize it's not as funny as it might have been, say 4 months ago when it was topical, but still.

probably right. Am I so off the mark, though? I mean, yeah, funny is subjective, but their response is almost vitriolic. I know, there's trolls all over the internet, but still, that reeks of the kind of hate I have for Alec Baldwin, Tina Fey, and Tracy Morgan.

of course it is, would I have said it if it wasn't?
    ...errr, don't answer that :ashamed001
I don't think so. If they were honestly confused about whether it was sarcastic or not, they probably would have apologized for misinterpreting.
But no, they not only stood their ground, but continue with the vitriol.

Yep. That's me. You have to know Apple products to get the joke. I've never owned an iAnything. You do explain the irony in the comments and so I understand it's a joke.

I don't get the angry response either. Unfunny jokes don't get comments. People don't laugh and they move on. No big deal. But these folks are responding like they're offended. Fanboys of one type or another, I suppose.

Exactly. I don't see why it's worth getting upset about. But then, I'm the one who's willing to argue over the inherent value of Williams soap and so I've got no room to talk about misplaced priorities...
