Great shave report and pics, Clint! Glad your shave worked out! Skin stretching is such a simple process for improving shaves! Enjoy your day!

    Awesome shave in Alabama today.

First, let's starts with the lather. The Rubberset 400 (ain't it purdy Jason?) with the Omega 10065 boar knot whipped up some glorious Soap Commander. The last couple of shaves I have been spending more time whipping up the lather and I have noticed more sheen and thicker lather. Have I been short changing my lather all of these years? :signs002: More experimentation to come.

Let's talk about the razor. The razor head is the Yaqi Single Edge in black. New to the den. The handle is my shortened Maggard's MR7 with o-rings in the grooves. The shave was smooth and efficient and not once did the razor give the impression of wanting to bite. Three passes, no blood loss and I am smooth. I am really liking this head paired with this handle.

Finished the shave with some Pinaud Clubman Virgin Island Bay Rum.

Take care....the weekend is just around the corner.

Real nice shave this morning. 0:30 to load the Razorock Lime Burst onto the big Stoylin brush. Again, I need to shake off some of the wetness on the brush(or squeeze it off better), as the first pass is more moist than the second. But I got through pass 1 all right. Both ends of Porcupine Alley give me the most challenge, asking for me to be real careful to avoid a cut or Knick. This time I was careful enough and succeeded :). I did go over a speed bump while moving across the jawline, but nothing came of it, thankfully. I find the need to go south to north on another section of Cactus Nation(to the right of center). I'll focus more on this "other" area of Cactus in future shaves. Clubman Reserve Gent's Gin A.S. for the finish. Feels nice. Out Of This World Excellent.

Thanks for the tips. I’m blooming it and loading it heavy. Like you I prefer wet, thin slick lather for straights. I’ll give it a few more tries before it’s relegated to the doesn’t work with my water drawer.

Excellent shave Clint! Personally, I never skin stretched when I used safety razors until I used straights/shavettes. It really improves the quality of a safety razor shave. Glad you experienced the same thing.

SOTD THURSDAY MORNING, NOVEMBER 5, 2020

This morning evolved into a bright, cold, sunny day here in the Philadelphia suburbs. My Riga razor arrived with a very hard sharp edge a month or so ago. After my second shave, I accidentally dropped it into the sink chipping the middle of the edge on the faucet. I was going to send it out, but decided to attempt the edge repair myself. After bread-knifing the edge on a 320K DMT plate, I reset the bevel on a Shapton 1000 and finished the edge on my Jasper stone through a series of decreasing slurry dilutions, finally finishing under plain water. Then to a series of pasted strops, finally finishing it on my son’s horween leather strop.

Not everyone is a fan of these jasper stones, but I’m a simple guy. Mine has delivered nothing but buttery smooth edges on all my razors. I find this Riga razor a bit clunky when compared to some of my nicer vintage razors, but I can’t argue with the great shave it delivers now. Three slow, leisurely passes (WTG, ATG, XTG) was all she wrote to deliver another lovely MWF enhanced velveteen shave. My Eclipse Red Ring is just a remarkably efficient dome shaver. I’m not sure what it is about the head design but a single ATG pass with a bit of selective buffing is the equivalent of two ATG passes with any of my other DEs or injectors. Only my AC safety razors are as efficient. I feel clean, refreshed and velveteen!

RAZOR: Riga Razor 7/8 (Mug), Eclipse Red Ring (Dome)
    BLADE: Feather DE
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a scrub with Argan Oil
BRUSH: MrEE Knurled Aluminum Handle Hybrid Knot #007
    SOAP: Mitchell’s Wool Fat
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by Humphreys Lilac WH. Finished with Royall Lyme AS.
