    Razor: Gillette Blue Tip
    Blade: Personal Platinum Chrome
Brush: MrEE 10098 Clone with Maggard hybrid knot
    SS and AS: Stirling Noir

The experiment continues. Yesterday's shave with the Muhle R41 left me clean and smooth all day with no blood or irritation. It was the best shave I'd ever had with the MR41. On the opposite side of the spectrum, the Blue Tip is extremely mild. It's not fair to call it a 2+ pass shave because the + pretty much repeated the ATG pass with more aggressive stretching to get to the BBS finish. I was able to get there, but it took a lot more effort to manage the blade angle to ensure the blade was actually cutting.

The early conclusion that skin stretching is critical seems to hold true. With the mild BlueTip, I also had to make sure the angle was perfect or the guard would prevent the blade from touching the skin. With the Blue Tip, using too much pressure and other mistakes are far less costly, but more skill was required to get a close shave.

For me personally, I'm starting to favor more intermediate razors.

I think making a chess set is just one of those things everyone with a lathe aspires to do. I've played chess enough to know I'm really bad at it, but I planned to make a set. I still may, someday.

And yes, if you're going to be serious about chess, you have to look the part. That's how you intimidate your opponent, by looking clean, well groomed, but completely out of style. :)

Nice shave, pic and gear Evan! My Red tip is fine, but I like my razors to be more aggressive. A Blue tip wouldn't cut it for me and the pun was intended.

Super fun shave this morning. Lots of PAA CK6 face lather slinging slick fun, tons of skin stretching for 2.5 passes with the J3Customs behemoth. Spine is 5/16" wide, blade just a whisker over 10/8. WTG, XTG, then an opposite toe down XTG pass on the lower right jawline & neck. BBS- results with a slow weeper above the upper lip on the first pass. Must've been a skin blemish I couldn't see, it wasn't a set down oopsie (which usually take the shape of a straight line). Oh well. No distraction from a fun refreshing morning routine. Quick ASB Star Jelly application followed with PAA's 'aftershave & cologne'....and ready for a busy Thursday.

Hope it's a great day for everyone!

To be honest, the decorative chess board was shaping up to be more work than the turnings. They are tough to laminate well and require a series of precise cuts on the table saw and a joined edge. You also have to be very careful in your wood selection. The light wood must have a tight grain or the colour of other wood gets engrained in the sanding process. It is why so many are made with Maple. The Yellowheart is similar and is why I chose it. I was going to be hand cutting the dovetails for the storage drawer underneath as well. Lofty goals that went precisely nowhere...a good, detailed project for retirement. Whenever that distant dream can become a reality...:happy097:

What's the big deal? It is just incentive to live for another 31.8 years...
Glad to hear the R41 gave good results, Evan. I like lots of different razors- some mild, some not. It is the 'hobby' part of TTT for me. In general, though, I find myself reaching for Gillette TTOs quite infrequently these days. A 30s OC 'Crat like yours would peak my interest, though.
I have heard very good things about that shave stick, Barry. Pardon my ignorance, but I don't understand the 'keeping pets safe' reference at the end...
What do you think of the Tri-color, Jim? I'm intrigued by Irisch Moos in general. Is it a good dupe?
I sound like a broken record, Joe. Another very cool, very original brush.
To be honest, this is what I do with every soap, every day.
Awesome, Clint. Yes, I don't recall you using alum very often. SV and a Thater? Bombproof luxury. Of course, you could lather that SV with a fuzzy slipper and it would still be awesome, though...
Another informative Bay Rum post, Joseph. Are you planning on doing a rating scale or something similar at the end?
Yup, a purdy 400. Is that the Katana head, Danny? Interesting. I found mine quite aggressive.
The Red Ring is such an iconic razor, Jeff. Very cool. If you are going to shave with a 007 brush, you need to have Moneypenny lather it up, though.
I read this and thought 'Jason, you must be asleep still and having a nightmare' and then I realized I was actually awake and that Pat Boone actually covered a Guns n Roses song...with an earring...
Is this what Purgatory looks like, ma?
By intermediate razors, do you mean not super mild or aggressive, Evan? Or is it a smoothness scale? Both?
Look at that thing, Blair! That isn't a razor, it is a meat cleaver from a butcher shop! Awesome pic, as always.
