  1. Thank you Jason. Checking the weight on the soap, I am averaging around 1.1 grams of soap per shave. If that holds true, I have two years worth of Fat Friday shaves in the dish. If things stay the same, I will buy a refill puck in two years. :D
  2. Me too!!!

  4. He is better, thank you for asking. Last week, he was moved to a rehabilitation facility near the hospital, where he will most likely spend at least 3 weeks. We are most thankful that the sepsis seems to be gone, but he will still be on antibiotics through this month (injected through a semi-permanent IV port). He still has a long road to recovery, but we are being positive.

  5. Such a unique razor by Tom that seems like it was made for you, Terry. That Bay Rum seems to be very well regarded as well. Will you reload it when it is done in a few shaves?

SOTD FRIDAY MORNING, NOVEMBER 6, 2020

Beautiful, sunny, warm weather and another great shave. My Frederick Reynolds is one of my favorite vintage Sheffield razors. The jasper stone edge is a joy to use. The razor, for whatever reason, just feels great in hand, and is a pleasure to use. Three passes (WTG, ATG, XTG) supported by the usual slick MWF lather put the baby to bed. My LaResche 51 delivered a comparable two pass (ATG, ATG) dome shave with a thicker MWF lather. The shave was finished with Lucky Tiger Aspen. I feel refreshed, clean and velveteen.

RAZOR: Frederick Reynolds 5/8 (Mug), NOS LaResche 51 (Dome)
    BLADE: Polsilver
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a scrub with Argan Oil
    BRUSH: JR Custom Boar #374
    SOAP: Mitchell’s Wool Fat
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by Humphreys Lilac WH. Finished with Lucky Tiger Aspen.
  7. Love the staging, Danny! Sounds like a fantastic lather. I think I'll load an Astra in the Katana the next time I use it as well.
  8. Great shave and report Jason! Love the brush. Canadian Clubman........interesting.......very interesting.

  9. A fantastic looking shave and an informative post as always, Joseph. Some subtle alliteration with S's amongst all the B's as well...

  10. No worries, Clint. I suspect there are only a few major centres receiving and processing mail to/from international destinations during the pandemic. I have recently sent two parcels to the US, and both look like they got there in the usual time, but get this- a parcel going to Pennsylvania went through San Francisco.

  13. Friday's Shave

    Schick L1
    Schick Blade
    Semogue 820 Boar
    Mitchell's Wool Fat
    Dickinson's Witch Hazel
    Irisch Moos

Another Fat Friday in the books today, and another subpar lather. It looks great for about 20 seconds, but then dissipates on one side while I am shaving the other. For the second pass, I added a small bit of LEA Menthol cream to stabilize the lather so that I could actually see what areas needed to be shaved. Essentially, the MWF is acting as a moisturizing pre-shave. I still have that lingering thought that it may be a puck from a bad production run that Clint @clint64 mentioned last week.

Overall I am still happy with the shave as I did 3 passes with the always comfortable Schick L1 and finished with a near BBS result and no irritation or mishaps. The wonderful Irisch Moos finish was icing on the cake. :)

  17. Thank you, Clint. It appears so.
Out of all the soaps I own, there is only one other that lathers more poorly - the Dominica Bay Rum puck.

With how slowly the Fine 3x pucks go down, that will be awhile yet I suspect.
