This new HYD thread is...... well.... short. Hey Jim, and everyone else. How the heck have ya'll been? Things have been so so 'round my way.

I saw that Shep made an appearance. Might need to start hanging out a bit more again.

yeah, the mods had the idea to make a weekly HYD thread so it stays smaller each week and more inviting to the ones not involved early on.
it'll take some getting used to, but overall I think it just may work

Daughter wakes up at the first crack of dawn. So we put black out fabric over her windows years ago. Today the air trapped between happened to expand enough to billow the fabric into a fisktank. I spent way too much time today moving plants & fish, draining tank, moving tank, filling tank, returning life to tank, removing wet window coverings, scrubbing the window moulding to try to stop/prevent molding...

So that has been my afternoon. I am so glad that I threw some squash, peppers, chicken, and other odds and ends in a crock pot after lunch. Enjoying a nice hot supper now without doing any work after dealing with the above mess.

From the associated content home improvement website:

To make the homemade gnat traps you will need the following items.
Soda bottle: this can be a two or three liter bottle.
Sharp knife: this will be needed to cut the top off the bottle.
Vinegar: apple cider works the best, but you can use regular white if that's all you have on hand.
    Sugar: just plain granulated sugar.
Water: enough water to fill the bottle half full.

    1. Rinse out the soda bottle.

    2. Using a sharp knife, carefully go down about two inches from the top of the soda bottle and cut the bottle top off. You Don't want to cut to much or the top will not stay on your gnat trap when you turn it upside down.

    3. Fill the bottle with the vinegar (1/2 cup), sugar (1/2 cup), and enough water to fill the bottle half full. You can stir the liquid mixture around to mix the sugar in. Don't fill the bottle to full, or the gnats will be able to escape. The liquid should not be touching the opening of the bottle.

    4. Place the soda bottle top that you cut off on the bottle upside down. The opening of the bottle should be inside the bottle. If you find the top keeps falling inside the bottle you can use a piece of duck tape to keep it in place.

Hope this helps. I know it works; I've seen it done.

According to the cliche, you catch more flies with honey than vinegar, but if you combine them, it is gnatastic!

(and yes, I do know there are some flies that will go to vinegar long before honey)

and then there are those flies attracted to menthol and/or pumpkin.

Jim, did you ever try the iced pumpkin shaving soap?
