From the wondermark blog and a claimed actual news clipping:

As reported in the New Hampshire Sentinel, June 20, 1855:

The Albany Argus has espoused the beard movement. This is its argument: – “We have come to the conclusion that the practice of shaving is alike ridiculous and absurd, and that it violates one of the laws of nature. Now, our beard was not given us for no purpose – that is evident. It was created for some wise purpose, and that was to keep the face and throat warm, and thus be conducive to health. Let us look at a few facts. It has been calculated that if one shaves three times a week, it grows twenty times as fast as if he did not shave. Allowing two inches as the annual growth of the beard, it will be seen that a man cuts off forty inches, or more than a yard of hair a year, and the nutriment which supports this, and is thus wasted, might have gone to nourish other parts of the body, and render him a healthy and handsome man! Again, allowing twenty minutes to each shaving operation, three times a week, amounts to one hour a week, – fifty-two hours a year. Supposing a man to shave forty years, we find he has consumed about three months in the simple act of shaving ; and calculating the expense of each operation at the small sum of six cents, we find it has cost him three hundred and sixty dollars. In view of these facts, we cannot but regard the practice of shaving as a decidedly barbarous one, and which ought to be discountenanced by the progressive civilization of the age.”

I have a money clip fashioned from a simple, lowly paperclip. Basically, take any paperclip lying around your desk, stick it in your pocket, and voila! you have my wallet in your pocket.
If you used a fancy coated paper clip, you don't have my wallet, it's worth more than mine.
    sad, ain't it

Yeah.... I see images of moneyclips with stacks of bills in them. I have more receipts in my wallet than $. I was concerned that the outer bills get torn up by keys and what not or that if it wasn't more than a few bills they would get all crumbled and pocket crudified.

I was looking at going even smaller with my front pocket wallet and was looking at the card cases over on all-ett. Then I realized that I have plenty of rip stop spinnaker fabric (for kite making) here and can just make my own to give that size a try. Not a big fan of folding up bills into quarters to put them in there though...

okay, I've been meaning to ask this question for awhile now, but keep suppressing it....until now:

So, am I alone in this, or has anyone else done this - you're driving along, minding your own business, when you see a new, bright red Camaro cruising down the road and find yourself saying "Cliffjumper!"?

    :D

I have yet to see any of the new Transformer movies. cliffjumper and bumblebee are still vw bugs in my mind.

If Mike hadn't said it, I wouldn't have even known that was a transformers reference.

yeah, same here, but I do think Cliffjumper as a new Camaro would be pretty darn cool, even though the VW Bugs are my preference

    ....and Justin....seriously!?!?! :D

Oh yeah.... that shocks everyone into silence..

Sorry, LaBeouf killed transformers for me within the first few minutes of the movie. Just haven't had the desire to watch anything transformers 2, 3, 4, or whatever they are filming now in Chicago.

I graduated up from the binder clip a couple of years ago, actually. For Christmas, my mother in law got me one of those slim money clips that holds bills on one side and cards on the other.

Absolutely the best money carrying system I've ever had! I really love the thing. It has helped me to get in a better habit of not carrying around receipts longer than I need to. If I have one complaint, it's that bills are a tad wider than the clip, and so if you only have 1 or 2 bills, they can be knocked a little loose when you take it in and out of your pocket. Also, carrying folded money can be a little awkward if you like your money sorted, because invariably, you'll be given a $1 and $10 that go on either side of your $5 bills and you have to unfold the whole pile, thumb through the twenties, place your ten-spot, thumb through the fives, and put your ones in. Thankfully (?) I never have more than about $10 in fives, so this is a problem I practically never encounter. But when I do, it's frustrating.
