That’s interesting, Gary. While Fine has always acknowledged that they based the soap on Tabac, I’ve never heard it said that Tabac actually made this soap for them. Have you heard that? I actually hadn’t heard who makes the soap for them, until they linked a story today about Seifenfabrik Dreiring in Krefeld closing. I had never heard of that maker. I don’t know if they are affiliated with Tabac.

You have many straights Joe. I am assuming that you send them out to be honed.

Yes I do. I have been sending them when needed to Glen Mercurio. I need to learn if not for anything else but for maintaining the edge

Looks like the manufacturer of the Fine soaps was a large producer. From the German newspaper story on the bankruptcy of the plant’s parent company:
“The companies of the Kappus Group filed for insolvency at the end of September 2018 after they were in financial distress due to the sharp rise in raw material prices and high price pressure. With an annual turnover of around 80 million euros and a production of more than 70,000 tons of soap, Kappus was one of the largest soap manufacturers in Western Europe. The group supplied industrial and large customers in retail and cosmetics with solid and liquid soaps, which are then sold under their brand names.”

Thank you, Clint! For such a humble little soap, it works great.

Glen (gsixguns) is one of the best honemeisters. I use chromium oxide (Crox) to refresh my edges. You have to put it on the fabric part of the strop. You can keep an edge for a long time using crox. Eventually, it will not work and then it needs to go on the stones or films.
