SOTD THURSDAY MORNING, NOVEMBER 19, 2020

This morning’s shave featured my father’s Gold Black Beauty for my dome shave and the Witte Copperhead for my mug. My new Sapele/Resin handled Pro48 boar whipped up two glorious lathers. The thinner wetter mug lather resulted in the usual velveteen mug result. After opening up my father’s Black Beauty, I achieved the same result for my dome, but greatly prefer my Gibbs or Rex Ambassador, as both seem more comfortable in hand. They also appear to better clamp the blade, resulting in less chatter during the shave, which this morning required 2 passes and some selective buffing to achieve the same velveteen outcome as one and 1/2 with the latter. I feel cool, clean and velveteen smooth.

RAZOR: Witte Solingen Copperhead (Mug), Gillette Gold Black Beauty
    BLADE: Feather DE
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a scrub with Argan Oil
    BRUSH: Sapele/Resin Handled Pro48 Boar
    SOAP: Mitchell’s Wool Fat
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by Humphreys Lilac WH and Osage Rub.

Felt like changing things up this morning and with all of the Fine talk from yesterday I had to bring the L. Orange out today.

Clint @clint64 should recognize this gear. It was a generous gift from him a while back. He reknotted the Ever Ready C40 and it did a great job whipping up the Fine soap. The Merkur 34C with an Astra is a dream to drive and is a solid performer. Three passes with no blood loss. A couple of splashes of the Clubman stank and I am ready for today. I just don't know if today is ready for me. :D

Have a great day today Gentlemen!

Moving on from Bay Rum for the remainder of NOVember.
Today, I broke open a new puck of Valobra Patchouly.

    IMG_6223.jpeg
BUT, before the shave I had some business to attend to.
These pucks flop around in the container. (Same as Czech & Speake)
    IMG_6224.jpeg
Therefore, to prevent moisture from collecting underneath the puck,
    Primo grates the soap.
    IMG_6225.jpeg
First with my fingers and then with a 58mm espresso tamper, I firmly press the soap back into the tub.
    IMG_6226.jpeg
    I cover the soap with
some plastic wrap before tamping. BTW, I really whack the soap!
    IMG_6227.jpeg
After about three layers, it's finished.
This soap is now quasi-quadruple milled!
The lather Valobra produces is second to NONE.
It's a real shame that they are out of business.
If you ever have the opportunity to pick up a puck, jump at it.
