I've had a rough time using an artisan single edge razor (Colonial General) mainly around my chin area. I almost gave up to go back to DEs when I came up with an idea of 1st pass DE, second pass SE. It seemed to work, is this crazy or no?
Your shave, your way! Welcome to The Shave Den! If you'd like, stop by the 30 Day Rule/Focus thread, and we'll help you with your SE technique.
It’s crazy yes. But your technique will improve in time. Until then keep being crazy and enjoy the shaves.
You're fitting right in here, just fine. A beard has no chance against a crazy man with a sharp blade. tp
I often switch razors while shaving. The ideal razor for my cheeks may not be ideal for my chin. That can even change depending on my skin or soap each day. Do what works for you. To answer you question, yes. Embrace your insanity so that no one can hold it against you.
None of us here suffer from insanity..We enjoy every minute of it! as for your shave, there’s nothing crazy about trying something, finding that it didn’t work out for you & then going back to something you did before.
You could try a Feather Proguard or Kai Protouch guarded blades that will help with your technique. Great blades and a easy DFS++. Have some great shaves!
I think this qualifies for thie thread: I just saw an ad from what I described a few days ago as The Puppy Mill Of Shaving(those who put silly, potentially weird ads on)...it was for Palmolive Rapid Shave Cream, but was described as "New Vintage". Which is it, buddeh???
I currently use a Gillette Adjustable slim handle era. I was using prior to April 2025 a Micro Touch One or short handle Weishi in the nickel plaited brass version I got in 2017 new from a Walgreens a pre Rick Harris endorsed model where the box was all smashed up. The Micro Touch One can now lock up in a way I had to throw on the floor to open due to how far I have to turn the shaver almost to locking up. I was since the twist knob was bad on the Micro Touch One looking at adjustable shavers in butterfly to clean during middle of shaving to keep using as my hair is kind of thick where mid shaving cleaning at about 80--90% is what I need to do then a final true clean at the end. Anyhow the market on butterfly adjustable shavers is limited with good models that are not quality control missing or have issues like the Viking model od wildly different comb styles when I was looking because the Micro Touch Twist knob was getting finicky. I eventually when previous Micro Touch One was dying quicker got a an old Gillette adjustable model for $32.87 with later because I like the model with the model being old no longer made, found a cased backup for $36.77 to also hold my Micro Touch One (flying only model) with the Gillette Adjustable slim handle in the case. Important info below: I need butterfly style for an easier mid shave cleaning to then do the final clean after the whole shave due to my thick hair or amount of hair that actually clogs shavers even Safe-T-Shavers. I normally shave without Shaving Cream using water on the blade and sometimes on the face. At most I use sometimes what is like a very small amount of soap or conditioner even lotion I get wet and let soak into the skin, if not lotion doing the same letting soak into the skin. I am currently using a hotel lotion with soap added mixture I call shaving soap. I need the feel or with thick gel, cream, or shaver soap, I go too hard with any shaver from my first, Mach III the older slide on versions, 2 blade disposables I used mainly the Wilkinson-Gillette or Persona Twin, to as of late 2017 Safe-T-Shavers due to disposable modern going crappier with the design or blade or modern shavers becoming more and more expensive. I also use on blades one whole side up at about 14 to 19 shaves depending on the specific blade model/era of same model being used then flip the blade for shaving the same amount or at least 14 shaves, getting at least 27--30 days sometimes up to 40--45 days on some blades. Crazy or No?
