Well... I went to the Verizon store to try out their smart phones. I tried 5 models, I killed 5 models. The Palm Pre Plus started acting like it was getting random touches all over the screen. The Ally died completely, the Droid 2 and the Fascinate gave browser errors that the employees had never seen, and the Storm 2 quit connecting to the internet and was acting like it was in airplane mode despite airplane mode being clearly off. I think the employees were about to kick me out of the store.

If they could make one that worked on a digital network and be pocket sized then I would go for it.

I just want a quality "stupid" phone, no external buttons, no camera, no nothing... but as soon as you step away from the "smart" phones, the quality of the phone drops down to cheap, poorly constructed chunks of mal formed preschool plastic.

Very true... If they made a good basic phone they would lose out on the sales of the big stuff..just my thought.

Did I mention that I have four or five Rotary dial phones.... when I have a home phone that is what I use.. with one cordless for if I need to press one for engrish..

See if you can find a Kyocera KX12 floating around on e-bay. That's what my old phone was and that thing was a tank. I've used it for about 4 years now, and the buttons were finally starting to get a little finicky, but that thing is near indestructible. When I bought it, I asked for "the phone you sell to bikers, firefighters, and construction workers." Built more solid than a solid thing--candybar style, hurt your ears loud speaker phone-- it did have one "totally useless" feature that I ended up using almost as much as I used the phone for making phone calls-- It has a flashlight built in.

All that said, I think I've found my next cell phone:
