    Jason @jtspartan.

This is a chess board I would like to build. This would store a lot easier.

Thank you, Joe! I noticed the lather yesterday required a bit more water to rinse from the razor. Today was no problem at all. Guess I needed a better hydrated lather yesterday.

    Nice!
The Dreamland ribs over here (franchised locations) just aren't the same as the ones from the original location in T-Town.

This is the exact process I would use, Danny, and why I mentioned the multiple laminations and resawing on a table saw.
2 notes from when I researched it at the time (about 15 years ago, mind you)- you have to be really careful on which light wood you choose. Maple is often used because it have a very closed pore grain. When you sand and finish, you have to be very careful not to get the dust from the darker wood in the lighter wood grain. It will look dirty. Secondly, you should alternate the direction of the grain every 2nd 'row' so that the wood will move less seasonally.
Yes, but at some point it is just the same thing x4. You have to worry about movement, etc, as well.
I like the 1st one, and I was looking at building a board where the pieces fit into a drawer underneath the board. Something kind of like this:

I did not know they had any over in Georgia. Dreamland is good but Archibalds in Northport is better.

There are a lot of options. After all it is only 64 squares. :D How hard good it be? I like the one with storage but I would like something to lay "flat" on a table.
You did mention the seasonal movement if the wood and that is probably why a lot of people go the veneer route on plywood....more stable but more tedious to line up the squares. I just prefer the looks of the solid wood with no molding around the edges.

I have some white oak I may plane down to use. I was thinking about ebony stain for the dark squares. If I worked on a board as mush as I have thought about it I would have one finished by now. :D

Very nice, Andrew. The rinse test is the best one I know of to gauge the proper hydration of the lather.
