I love iced coffee .. so I have been mixing 1 cup of whatever flavor coffee suits me at the moment to 32 oz of cold water. I let it set for 12 hours or so on the kitchen counter and then filter it twice. I store it in the icebox for up to a month. Whenever I'm ready for it, I mix half and half coffee/milk and sweeten to my taste (usually 2 splenda packets) and suck it down while I'm in the shower!! What a kick first thing in the morning and it doesn't heat me up while showering/shaving/getting ready for work!!

Jason, the big deal on the Aeropress is that you have all the control of a french press without the big mess of a french press or all the silt ending up in the cup. If you really want espresso, this is not a substitute. You can make it strong by increasing how many grounds you put in the aeropress, by how fine of a grind you use, and how long you let it steep. However, if you steep too long, the flavor gets more and more bitter as you over extract the chemicals from the grounds. You can get strong. You can get smooth. What you won't get is true espresso.

Jason, do the inverted method (directions and video: http://etoyocs-howl.blogspot.com/2010/10/aeropress-coffee-inverted-method.html ) and let it steep for a minute or so. You don't need to stir the entire time just the first 10 seconds or so.

Do any of you guys ever use the old coffee maker/pot just to heat the water, or to keep some hot water on hand?

Actually, I do use coffee pots to heat the water... for science labs. But when I make my Aeropress coffee, I either use a hot pot or a tea kettle on the stove. That way I have more temperature control. I usually make mine at about 185-190 degrees.

All you coffee nerds can have your fancy techniques and specialty equipment, I'll be over here enjoying a cup of Folgers made in my mr. coffee pot.

    mmmmm... good stuff.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got to go start my complicated head-shaving routine using my high-tech specialty razor...*

*Don't give me grief--I'm much more consistent and considerably faster with the headblade, and it gives me an excuse to enjoy a wilkinson sword head shave. Not to mention, right now I'm in a bearded state---what can I say, the wife likes my beard.

    I'm glad it's Friday.

I don't think I could take another day of this week...
It just keeps getting better and better.

    Just a quick recap:
Ended last week with the Missus taking ill.
Found out that a friend's son shot himself.
Took wife to doctor for her problem--find out that we owe the clinic because her insurance didn't cover her last visit (they never told us--also, this means we haven't met her deductible  )
Couldn't find the toilet paper we like at the local store, had to drive 30 miles away just for buttwipe that's septic safe and acceptable. (Trust me--it's a necessary trip).
Spent the last 2 days trying to kill a virus that a teacher contracted because she didn't follow procedure--(this is the second time in 6 months she's gotten hit this way.)
Was up late last night because TWGW was having trouble with stupid frontierville and didn't want me going to bed without her.
Hit snooze on the alarm this morning, and it never went off again-- woke up 15 minutes late for work.
I'm just glad I woke up, because I was having a bad dream about work--the second one in 2 weeks.
Confronted a dead monitor on one of the servers first thing this morning.
The virus wins. I've fdisk'd and am in the process of reinstalling everything.
Got a call a few minutes ago that a friend from church who had massive heart surgery this week has been told by the doctors that there's an infection in his bowels and there's nothing they can do for him.

It just keeps getting rosier and rosier.

My book reference was kinda obscure- it's from a 1970s sci-fi/ fantasy hybrid novel that I read back in the 7th grade or so. It's a coming of age story about a boy and his dragon.

As for movies that are true to the book... Hmm... Logan's Run wasn't, but that was a good thing since the book stunk. Except for the very end, The Mist was pretty faithful to the novella. Oh, and Lynch's Dune was faithful in spirit but not in actual content. I liked his version much better than the SciFi channel version that *was* strictly faithful to the novel.

That's a horrible week. No if, ands, or buts. I wish I could do something for you other than pray.

    exactly.

So, I guess what we're led to believe is that the new Volkswagon is eerily fake looking and pretentious?

How is that different than the old Volkswagon?
