Uggh...If your hours of operation states that you are open until 5:00 PM, it is unacceptable to tell someone that has busted tail in order to get there from 20+ miles away and gets there with 2 minutes to spare, that you usually shut down "a few minutes early", and that you can't take my payment.
    Totally. Unacceptable.

How about the "it's past 5 by our clock" excuse

Is it a business or isn't it?

    "The customer is always right."

Sadly, we've lost the notion that customer care is priority. What people want is to clock out as quickly as they can and get away from their sh*thole job. Maybe your job wouldn't suck so much if your clients knew you wanted to help them!

That's just another thing wrong with the world today.

in a day long since gone, that could be a viable excuse; the proliferation of cell phones, all in sync with the atomic clock, and computer systems that virtually all businesses rely on do the same, usually, basically takes that excuse away.

However, that's a moot point as the lady said aloud, to me and the two others that were there before me, and thus waiting longer than me and the 2+ minutes I had to spare (for a 30 second transaction), that they "always shut the computers down a few minutes early". Out loud, vocally admitting that it is both A) before the posted hours of operation, and B) that they shut the computers down anyway (and thus implying C) screw you)

very unhappy, probably going to be viewed as a problem customer with my letter they'll have on file later today, but it is honestly the last they'll hear from me on it, unless I have a late charge assessed, then they will hear more.

I can understand wanting to get shut down and leave at a certain time, and if that's the case, change your "hours of employee payment time", or change your "hours of business operation".

It's the only courteous and responsible thing to do.

But, it is a small town, and there are no alternatives to this utility service, not like I can change companies.....

    you might consider relocating

    'In 2nd...' :sad029

I worked for someone who had us (employees) all stand at the door ready to go, keys in hand, for the last 90 seconds of open operation. On the stroke of 5 pm we would lock the door and walk away regardless of the pleadings of single mothers with screaming children in the backseat who had fought expressway traffic for 45 minutes to get to us before we closed.

She was kind of mean, but fair.

No I take that back, she was often unfair, but she was definitely mean

nah, happy where I'm at, despite minor, occasional, inconveniences

    2nd's good, right be JoAnna....[IMG]

(unless we're talking the arcade, then I'm right behind you....:scared011

and, that's fair; cruel, but fair. If I was 1 minute late, no big deal, the impetus is on the customer to get their business done on time. The problem is when the customer is on time, and the business creates the barrier. That is my gripe. I've gotten to the office a few minutes late before, kicked myself, accepting the late charge, and gone on. My fault. This wasn't. So I won't be paying a late charge. They may try to slip in on my next bill, but it won't work, I'm onto their game. I've already heard from 4 others who have had the same thing happen to them, one of them 10 minutes (according to her watch) before 5:00. So it's not just me. I'm not angry or anything, just venting my frustration, seeing if I'm being unreasonable or not.
It's not like I'm 5 minutes late and expect one business to be generous just because another business was gracious, as many of the "I'm entitled" generation tend to do.

But, in a matter of time, this will all be but a vapor of thought, no great achievements or loss made, and it's meaningfulness will be even less than it's lack of meaningfulness now.

    Or something.

    Refrigerator.

    Huh... the weather around here.

Saturday 2 inches of snow. Monday-Thursday weather in the 60's and 70's. I am going to miss going to walks during lunch in 70 degree weather.

And closing before the actual close of business? Even Floyd would at least put up a gone fishing sign. But it is still bad business.

20 lb. birds for $7 at Safeway this weekend. Don't know if that's nationwide or not, but worth checking out. That's a great price.

Turkey day is just around the corner.....

Our Safeway got turned into a talking-in-tongues Church.

Cool. I was a King Sooper's guy when I lived in Colorado. Kroger bought them out right about the time I left, but they will always be King Sooper's to me.

that's the best, most accurate to-the-point assessment I've ever heard!

(for those outside of the Distraction area) It's mostly referenced to as "the Safeway church", but now I'm going to call the the Talking-In-Tongues Church, or for short, the T-I-....uhhh, nevermind

King Sooper still exists here. There's one right down the road from me. Don't know if they are the parent company or not, but the name is still on the building. All part of the Fry's chain which was the big store when I lived in AZ.

Not to come off as a buzz kill, but all the Christians that I know agree that gift of tongues is referenced in a few places in the Bible.

However, it seems to me that the only place you actually see it occur is at the Pentecostal Evangelist Churches.

It blew my mind at 8 years old when I first saw it happen. I thought this little 80 year old lady was having a heart attack.

    okay, mister buzz kill... :D

I'm not going to get into discussing the gift of tongues, I believe in it, but I also believe many folks get wrapped up in it and make something happen that isn't there.
Just like every other gift, there has to be a purpose of glorifying God, and when someone speaks in tongues, someone is there to either interpret, or understand. This particular church emphasizes speaking in tongues to prove your spirituality, which has nothing to do with the Biblical principal.
But you're right, that was a reference to a specific that in a public, online forum of strangers is very easily taken out of the specific context it was meant in, and cast a dubious shadow on mine and Micah's comments.
No intent of belittling or condescending of speaking in tongues intended.
    My apologies for any misunderstanding.

    So, about these turkeys? :D
