First use of the Barbasol Floating Head and color me impressed. I get the enthusiasm behind this razor now, well built, solid in hand feel, easy shaving angle, incredibly smooth shaving w/awesome blade feel, great aesthetics. First pass, WTG, I could tell this was gonna be nice....barely anything left for a second pass, save for the ever troublesome lower right jawline/upper neck transition. Figured I give it my ultimate test, a direct ATG pass on that area, just barely touching/skimming the surface (that's loaded with shave cream). Normally, most times with this pass, using the DEs or SEs I've tried with just about any blades, it seems I can feel nearly every shaft being tugged then cut as the blades' edge tries to do it's work. My growth must really lay flat there (never grown it out, so hard to know really). Sometimes it's razor burn city on this pass if I forget to monitor pressure on the device. Pleasantly surprised today....maybe there's a developed muscle memory or technique I've slightly mastered, but the ATG pass was not as tuggy or irritation prone as I'm used to. I'd almost call it a smooth pull. Third pass, XTG out to in, much the same, very smooth w/lots of blade engagement & feel. One corner of the mouth dot. Zero feedback from the slightly mentholated PAA Star Jelly, followed with a hefty dose of a favorite fragrance, PAA's Atmotic.

Lather....thought I'd show how my bowl overflowing, lather slinging fun sessions are turning out now. Been eyeing @Primotenore's lather shots and tutorials, as well as a bunch of you other 30DC'rs lather images. Here's mine today, knot cleared by using the bowl edge, slight re-swirling of what's left in the bowl/brush, after four face lathers (the last being one that just sits on the face as I rinse the tools). Lather is still very peaky, nicely dense like sour cream, although barely on the wet side. Almost a shame to rinse everything off...

A surprisingly fine canned shave this morning(I came back to the Clubman double-play-Shave Cream and A.S.). Were it not for the fact that I had zero facial "wear and tear"(no cuts/Knicks) I could just rubber stamp yesterday's report into today's. I couldn't help but think that I most probably shaved with the same arsenal 40 years ago as I did today's. Anyway...made sure once again to get lots of the cream on the face and neck. I'm sure I could have done a little better traversing the N.E. side of Porcupine Alley-N.W. side too, for that matter. Those are areas at which I perform better with soaps. Cactus Nation looks and feels good(for a canned shave).Clubman A.S. a great finisher for this cream. I do sense a bit different scent in the aftershave than the cream, but not by much. It's still a worldwide barbershop classic. It all began(Clubman)in 1810 with the birth of Edouard Pinaud. Thing is, since most Clubman products say 1810 on the cover, we're led to assume that Monsieur Pinaud created his world famous products inside his baby crib. That's why I've been saying 1830 lately, as it was THEN that the Frenchman got to work. Anyway, for the shave I'll say Out Of This World Excellent*

*for a canned cream shave.

Great FH shave, Blair! They truly are amazingly efficient shavers! It’s fortunate you are as skilled a safety razor shaver as you are. I’ve read reports of newbies tearing their faces up on a FH. It’s not a razor that tolerates technique inconsistency! Enjoy your shaves!

2nd day with the Goodwill. Evan's Gold Plating job is excellent. The Goodwill is a great razor, and now has the topcoat to match.
3 easy passes this morning and I am almost perfectly smooth without any buffing or chasing. Just a little bit of minor sandpaper on my right neck and I had to hunt to find it. Love this Brut dupe and the CK6 base works well for me. On the @Keithmax scale? Epic.
On a personal note, I am using up some of my accumulated vacation time over the next week and a half, which will enable me to match my wife and kids Christmas break from school. Today is my last work day (hopefully) for a few weeks as there are a couple stat holidays thrown in as well. Ironically, I'll have more time to post and read (hopefully) but will probably skip as shave day here or there.

Happy Friday Everyone. This week is winding down quickly. Back to MWF for Fat Friday. The Fat seems to work better for me with badger brushes. I think I load more soap in the badger knots. At any rate, the big Rubberset whipped up a mountain of lather. I easily had enough in the brush for 5 or more passes. Three passes and minimal touch ups ended in a near BBS. A splash of Fine Fresh Vetiver and I am off to a client site all day. I hope everyone has a great Friday.

Awesome shave in Alabama this morning.

Cella was good stuff this morning. Still working on getting the Hawk dialed in but it is getting there. The Feather Professional Super is a little tuggy on the first pass but smooths out on the second and third passes. Overall I am really liking the Hawk.

My oldest son has been shaving with straight razors for over two decades, and in that time has built a huge straight razor collection. He gifted me with what looked like just an ordinary razor. It had been sitting in his to-be-worked-on drawer waiting for scales. The old bone scales were chipped and needed replacement. He has what he believes is a complete collection of their offerings from 4/8 - 7/8. This was the 4/8 that went into the lend/lease program. He gets it back whenever I transition to the other side of the grass. In any case, it went to the master, Glen Mercurio, for a new set of scales along with a Wade & Butcher 7/8 that I shaved with yesterday.

Simmons Hardware Co. was an American cutlery company based in St. Louis Missouri. Best known for their “Keen Kutter” brand, they were in business from 1868-1960. This razor was produced in the very early 1900’s according to my son. He really likes the brand and is a real fan of the steel’s edge holding ability. Glen finished this razor on an Escher. After shaving with it, I understand why my son is such a fan. The razors were primarily made for the barbering trade, and were advertised for their edge holding capability. I can’t speak to that yet, but can say that the shave was excellent! This is my first 4/8 size blade, and I really like its maneuverability.

The rehandled Pro48 Boar easily generated the two types of MWF lather I like. For my dome shave I selected one of my top two Gem shavers, the MMOC, the other being my Ever Ready Streamline. The MMOC cleaned away my dome stubble with aplomb, and left me feeling refreshed, clean and smoothly velveteen. Another great shave in the books! Rather than spend money on new straights, I think I’ll just raid my son’s collection. I tried for his Hoshi Tonbo 8000, but got nowhere! Christmas is just around the corner, and being a grand master of Guilt-Jitsu, I’ll appeal to how happy he’ll make his poor, old decrepit father in his final days! We’ll see!

RAZOR: Simmons Hardware 4/8 (Mug), Gem Micromatic OC (Dome)
BLADE: Pella PTFE Gem
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a scrub with Argan Oil
BRUSH: Sapele/Resin Handled Pro48 Boar

Seemed like a great day to use the MWF.
Face-lathered "The Fat" with the above-pictured Rubberset. (I was careful to remove the toothbrush from the foreground)
With a newly tightened hinge-pin (thanks for the encouragement @jgreenepa )
I had an easier time stropping, never feeling the blade was going to fling around and sever a finger.
Nice 'n easy three pass shave and some cleanup work, resulted in a DFS+ shave---sans blood.
First outing with the just-received-last-evening bottle of Christian Dior Eau Sauvage.
Me likey this juice.

The razor/holder combo is stunning, Joe. Very cool. You don't see the Ginger's Garden stuff much anymore. When I joined TSD in late 2016, they used to raffle off a GG gift certificate to a newbie. Very generous.
Hope the drive to work wasn't too bad in the snow.
