  2. A Seiko Kamisori, how cool is that! Great shave, Blair! One question, is it a quartz or automatic movement? ;)

  3. December 20th

    Razor: Feather DX Pro
    Blade: Feather AC Professional
    Brush: JTSpartan Poculi
SS & AS: Stirling Intrepid Man

I wanted to try a similar shave with a steeper angle on the blade. The first pass went better and the second pass was good. The same weepers from yesterday opened up but I did do better. Planning to let things heal and try again in a few days.

Thanks for the input Blair and Jeff. I thing the spine is so wide its easy to thing the angle is good when its really not.

  4. Good shave, Evan, but I agree with Blair about the steep angle, roughly comparable to the way I shave my straights! I might recommend a Feather Proguard or Softguard blade to master your technique. They’re every bit as sharp as a regular Feather AC, just a bit more forgiving. My oldest grandson, Bill, shaves his DX with a regular Feather now, but found the Proguard helpful in mastering his technique.

  5. That lather looks amazing primo. That scent is truly special. Glad you got that package even though it took forever. Haha

  6. Super Seiko Sunday shave Blair! If I ever decide to get a traditional kami, then I would need to practice shaving with just my right hand and only one side of a straight That would be the closest thing for a mayhem shave from yours truly.

  7. Thank you, Jeff!

Thank you, Joe! This set reminds me of some Christmas season candles I've used through the years.

    Good afternoon, Gary. Thank you!

Thank you, Dave! Cookies will be in the oven shortly. :happy088:

  9. Not sure my comment yesterday was interpreted as my intention....

For my comment, I'm almost riding the 'face' of the DX. There is hardly a perceptible gap between the spine of the DX and my skin surface.

Hopefully the graphics below help explain. For the DX I use 0-10 (maybe 15) degree angles for every pass, as shown for the XTG and ATG passes. Rarely do I have any open edge razor with the 30 degree angle shown for the WTG pass.

    Cutting_angles_large.jpg

And...fwiw, I'm not completely in agreement on this second graphic, but I think it's also a good visual. I use angles/grips that work for me with open edge shaving, which is rarely what may be considered traditional techniques or whatever....if it works, it works.

Hope this helps clear up my comments.

  10. I've done the one handed shave with a traditional Kamisori. Not a big deal, just awkward. Using both sides of a traditional grind...one side is like any other western grind, then the off side is like shaving with a shavette (very edgy/temperamental).
