Thanks Jeff. I went ahead and got it. I'll do some research when I have time. Thanks for the advise. I'll probably just oil the blade for right now and then pick up the fine steel wool that you mentioned. We will see how it goes from there.

I know it will probably never make a show piece but if I can play around with it it will be worth it.

Thanks gentlemen for the kind words. The handle was a fun project and I even left part of the Peterbilt part number on the handle. I had forgot about it till I was going through a box of gear.

This had been an interesting day on the thread. Sausage balls, gumbo, light boxes, Boxing Day, pottery, cold dips and the usual shave related stuff..... guys yall are a fun bunch for sure.

    Take care!

I cried my eyes out for @jtspartan's kids today. They will grow up, never knowing about sausage balls. To think this guy's an educator of our children... :)

    Dec. 26 Clinical Notes

Step 1 of the recovery process is complete. Patient now recognizes visual images of sausage balls. Next step will be to introduce characteristic scent in order to elicit responsive brain wave patterns...

    Guys....I AM so excited! :happy093:

The straight razor I scored today at the flea mall is a winner for sure. I did a little research.

Do you see the little crown to the left with WR under it. That dates the razor to 1830-1837.

I would still like to know if the scales are original to the razor. For now this little baby is getting a little oil on the blade and is getting put in a nice place.

Technically not an incorrect practice, it’s common to use leftovers of either chicken and pork, or pork and seafood. Maybe that happened in my mother’s history growing up, but since I can remember starting late 60s, it was always made fresh. Most of the times we were getting everything from a farmer’s market or seafood market. That was part of the fun. My mom’s family history was the toe tip of Louisiana/Mississippi. A town called Bogalusa. Dad’s was more south, Bay St. Louis, Mississippi.
