Incidentally, the dark part on the reverse edge near the heel is just a weird shadow or reflection. It made me look again, but there is no edge damage visible with the naked eye. I haven't taken a loupe to it yet.
Loupe examination done, I think a simple refreshment of the edge is all it needs. No edge damage or even significant dulling to speak of. Obviously restored, but nicely done. Super duper happy!
The seller sells on eBay, she had them listed there, but she lets a few people know before she lists them. A lot of sellers are beginning to do that because eBay fees have gotten so high. She had 6 of them in this lot and a at least a couple more before. I wish that I’d gotten at least one more.
I just acquired a new stainless Dovo Barbarossa. This is my first real straight so I'm pretty excited about it. The scales are ebony wood. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
Welcome! Next to buy is a razor from Sweden. Then you will find out the difference between sharp and sharp... Skickat från min iPhone med Tapatalk
SWMBO is a sneaky wife. She sniped me with one of my flea market sellers to put this in my Xmas stocking. A Wosty I.XL wedge with original marked coffin. For being around 150 years old, not bad. Good meat on the blade and pressed, embossed horn scales. It will clean up nicely. She got a extra cookie last night
Picked this one up at a flea mall today. 1830-1837 J. Bingham's Criterion. I wonder if the scales are original?
If they aren’t original, I think they are of the time period. That pique-work (silver pins inlaid into the design) seem to be of that 1830-40 time period. I think they look to be in amazing shape too. Congrats. Tom
Thanks Tom. I just found this. I need to do some more research but it is possible the scales are hippo ivory. The scales are in remarkable shape if they are that old. No cracks or chips. Danny
Thanks Tom...I just stumbled up on this one today. When I picked it up it just felt different/special if that makes sense plus the price was right....real right.
My latest acquisition, Jernbolaget Eskilstuna Sweden. Or the Iron Company translated. They are most famous for door closers... Skickat från min iPhone med Tapatalk
I'm having a party! Just got these three in: Shumate Barber De Luxe Klas Törnblom rattler ground Worcester Razor Co throwaway that came with the Klas I bought the Shumate to hone and gift to a friend that has expressed interest in learning wet shaving, and I couldn't be happier. There is hardly any sign of wear, the blade centers nicely, and I think he should get plenty of reliable service out if it. While looking for a good candidate for the above, the Klas and it's chipped friend fell in my lap for the unheard of buy it now price of $15. I could tell from the pictures that the scales were ivory, and they certainly are! I'm also quite pleased with the shape, being both rattler grind (of which I had yet to get one) and possessing a barber's notch with a bit of a Spanish toe to it. I've done a little cleanup with Simichrome, but I need to order a new tube, so making them totally shiny may have to wait (and may not be totally possible, I understand that, but I think I can clean it up more). The Worcester reminds me of the movie The Duff, where they posited that every pretty girl had a "designated ugly fat friend". Instead, to get a nice razor, you also have to take the useless one off their hands. I will probably bury it in the yard. The chip is in a terrible place, and I don't really have the skills to grind something like that out anyway. And the scales aren't particularly good either. They warp in the middle and are comically thick sitting next to the ivory. Sent from my LGUS992 using Tapatalk
