Yup... Maybe it would work too well and they would then have to put some kind of antitrust lawsuit and break the company up. But it would be great while it lasted.

Oh and sorry... Chewbacca got his phone synced first and then threw the rest of your androids away. At least I think it was Chewbacca.. it is all very fuzzy now.

I hate dreams where for no apparent reason I show up to work in the factory that I worked at during the summers when I was in high school.

Hmmm... intellectual theft of a hot potato? Can you imagine the blame games that would be passed around?

    The question arises again:

    Drill Press

    or

    Drill Chuck for the lathe

Okay, here's the rub... The press can be picked up immediately, in-store. It's versatile, as in I can drill all sorts of stuff--however, I haven't, to date, had great need for a drill press--though it has come up once in awhile.

The drill chuck, on the other hand, is excellent for drilling on the lathe. Pretty much a singular purpose, though. Much more precise than the press, it should make some lathe jobs easier. Oh, and add around $10 shipping for ground delivery.

The kicker is my lathe isn't a fancy one-- in fact, it's kind of one of the red-headed stepchildren of lathes. It doesn't have the most user-friendly tailstock, and it probably isn't super-precise because of that.

    What would you do?

Looking into getting daughter an android tablet or an ereader. So how do you think that Novel would do for a geeky 11 year old? Why did you have to load stock android on it? Any experience with a veracity cruz to compare with it?

Here's a thought I had earlier this week...

I absolutely love the smell of Yardley's English Lavender soap. It's a nice tallow soap, but I don't think it'd lather to suit me. So, I'm thinking of grinding up a bar, and adding the powdered soap to some melt 'n' pour glycerin. The glycerin base I use has a lot of olive oil in it and something in the formula makes additives disperse throughout so that clays and other stuff will "float" in it and not just sink to the bottom. Have any of you guys ever mixed a tallow soap with a glycerin? Am I just chasing pipe dreams or what?

And what is up with all the ideas and questions I've had lately? Has someone been slipping brain drugs into my coffee?

Both are really useful, but I use my press MUCH more than my drill chuck.

Off to South Bend here in an hour. They have had 4 feet of snow lately, so it may be an interesting visit. I really hope that the theater isn't closed due to weather. That would tank and will have cost me the ability to watch today's play off games for nothing.

Oh well.. If I were a Rich Man..........

depends on how much she expects from it. If she has a friend with an ipad and tries to compare it to it, she'll be disappointed.
but as a ereader, basic web browser, it's great. A little underpowered, but will do the job.
I've never messed with a Cruz, but I remember reading that you can load the Cruz software on the Novel, they're basically the same hardware underneath. There are some common problems in the process, but they can be worked out.
The Novel in it's stock mode is fine, the home screen always has the Barnes and Noble home screen that comes up, I loaded the stock Android (actually from Pandigital's homepage as a Open Platform Kit) and it runs a bit faster, and looks like a normal Android home screen.
It doesn't have access to the Market (yet, they're working on it), but you can download the .apk of any app to install it.
If she's pretty tech savvy, she may well enjoy it. It's a resistive touch screen, like Palm products. You may want to see if a store has one on display to play with and see what you think.

at least they're not slipping coffee into your brain drugs...

Well... instead of buying either the drill press or the chuck, I opted to buy a vintage vivitar 200m prime lens for my Nikon for $80. I lose metering and autofocus, but I think it'll be fun.

So here's what I wake up to this morning (and an AWESOME way to start the day) ... right cheek burning and I can't stand on my right foot, a little disoriented and cutting it close to get to work ......

Last night, Jeff and I head to Mojo's for a good-bye DRINK to the support staff I've had the last two weeks ... eventually the drink turned into multiples and at some point during the night, I did a face plant in the parking lot (which I don't remember at all).

All day today, I have been finding new wounds ... First up, my right cheekbone is wrecked and swollen with two small cuts where my glasses dug in (they are toast), my right foot is swollen where I am sure I twisted something due to the high-heel boots I was wearing (don't drink and try to navigate in high-heels, not recommended ), at some point this morning I realized both of my knees are skinned. After I get home from work, Jeff and I are playing Scrabble and I realize my left hand is bruised and swollen.

All in all, it was a REALLY good time .. but I can go without the bodily harm. :D Now, about that job interview I'll be flying to Chicago for in a couple weeks ......

My Sundays are the polar opposite of what they're supposed to be. My wife works nights Friday and Saturday (she's a nurse), and we have kids 5, 3, and 1. Sundays we go to church. I don't need to explain to you what this is like.
But on the bright side, thank God my 1-year-old has been sleeping through the night. There is nothing, and I mean NOTHING worse than not being able to lay down and go to sleep.

yeah, right, I know better. If it was one or even two days, it would be understandable, but im quite sure it wont be today, and ill surprised if they fix it tomorrow.

Thanks - you confirmed a lot of what I was thinking.

She doesn't have any friends with an iPad. At least not that I know of. She isn't wanting all the bells and whistles but wants something that is an e-reader and likes a lot of the apps in the android store. Plus, it will be more convenient for us if she is using the same software platform we are for troubleshooting any issues she may run into. She doesn't expect it to work well on video; and we aren't really thrilled about the fact that it would be unfiltered internet so a great web browser isn't a priority. The Cruz and the Novel look like they will fit the bill. I probably will take her to look at some this week; however, she is used to having to use a stylus. She has been using a DS Lite for years.

Amen, brother! Having lived in Wisconsin, during which I ministered to two parishes, I know there isn't a lot of separation (if any) between football and religion.

been there. sleeping children are wonderful!
