Hey, when in Wisconsin, we always appreciated ministers who have short sermons on a Packer 12PM game day.

I figure the Bears will win today and that will be a great NFC showdown. However, Eagles, Falcons, Seahawks... I'm just saying..

Argh!!! I am so sick of Frontier.com. It has been a year since they bought out Verizon internet in Inidana. It has been over 6 months since the switch over and the website is still so messed up that you can't set a trouble ticket about slower than molasses in January internet speeds. Latest speedtest... .15 MB/s. You call and you get forwarded to Verizon. But the Verizon person tells you that you aren't a verizon customer and to call Frontier. Call frontier and get auto forwarded back to Verizon. Argh!!!

But what should I expect, my options are stay with this cruddy service, or install a internet by smoke signal system. No clear view of southern sky for a Hughes system. No FIOS within 2 blocks and cable company isn't supporting cable internet installations. They only want to do fiber. If you don't have fiber nearby, you are just SOL.

Needless to say, Netflix isn't working. (or much of anything else).

 

A stylus will work with the Pandigital, not sure about the Cruz, but I'd imagine it's a resistive screen as well.
Might do some searches on hacks for the two devices and see what's being said there, if it's something you'd be interested in doing, and also get a more hands-on review and description of the devices, pros and cons, etc.

Like I said, I went into it knowing what to expect, and more importantly what NOT to expect. The best test, at least for me, is always getting my own paws on a device and kick the tires, so to speak.

 

I feel your pain, this is day 5 with no phone or DSL. Finally got PDANet installed on my laptop, so I can tether to my Droid, but I'm weary of using too much data.

Really consiering hard dropping land line altogether, except that cellular data is insufficient for Netflix, etc.

However, one thing I'm considering, is the Motorola Xoom tablet once it comes out. At first I was thinking just the wi-fi model, but now I'm starting to wonder if dropping home land line and going with the 3G model might not make sense....
of course, that depends on a lot of things, like whether or not I'm able to snag a part-time job. WalMart would be good, plenty of available hours, they're always hiring, and 10% discount would be a boost in pay as well, considering how much of our checks they take from us as it is.

If I do manage to get hired, it's gonna kick my boo-tay and take away too much of the precious family time, but it just might be the eye-opener a certain someone needs to be more disciplined with her purchasing decisions....not that I don't shoulder some of the blame, but it's fractional comparatively.
And that wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for elbow surgery, root canal, kids' dental needs, my wife's ongoing health issues, 10 tires for the cars (new sets for each, plus another set for wife's car because the alignment was waaaaaay off), and all the other surprises in the meantime.

Still, regardless of it all, God is good

 

Well... we went to the den of evil which was as usual filled with pushy people who don't really know what they are selling and let daughter try the different tablets this afternoon. She has already decided she prefers the Velocity Cruz of the ones we were offering. She didn't care about processors or internal memory, Android version, etc... Seeing that she was paying for a chunk of the cost from her Christmas money and we were footing the rest of the money as her birthday present (it isn't till next month...), wife went ahead and ordered the Cruz for her this afternoon. The Cruz reacted well enough to touch and was working without a stylus. I preferred the other tablets they had, but it was daughter's money and 11th birthday gift so if that is what she wanted.....

 

okay, seriously? Lowe's wants a full resume submitted? To arrange and sell ferns?

hmm, just looked at their website and that may very well be the better of the two. May be just the reason a lot of folks were loading the Cruz ROM on to the Novel

It doesn't look that bad. I would just have preferred to do more research before the decision was made. However, I don't think that anything I would have found would have changed daughters mind.

 

I understand the research part, but for the price range, there's really not going to be anything significantly better, I think.

Been reading up on the Xoom specs, it's got HDMI out, which could make it a suitable video device. And there's new talk of Netflix coming to Droid....there could be potential in this thought.

How's Your Day? Jan 17 - Jan 23

Just watched Oliver! off the DVR. Hadn't seen it since I was a kid. A little more hokey than I remember, but not bad.

Been worrying about money issues due to some recent events, but it's nothing to prevent keeping clothes on our backs, a roof over our heads, and food in our bellies. So, on the whole life is good.

Absolutely Pertwee. While I didn't watch him first run, he's my favorite of the "old" series doctors. The only doctor I find better is Tenant, then only by a hair.
