Day 1 of my January Rule
Tuxedo Synthetic brush
because it is a great inexpensive and easy to use tool
Col. Conk Glycerin based Bay Rum Soap
because I consider it an easy to use inexpensive soap. I’m not usually much on bay rum scents, but this I like
Gillette C1 Flair Tip
I won this in the raffle last year. A very intuitive tool IMO. No wonder people love these things.
Personna Blue (1)
a blade I’ve always considered a so-so ‘one and done’ performer. Inspired by Gary’s 200+ Nacet Excaliburian legend, I’m gonna push a little further than usual.
Proraso Green toning lotion w/menthol & eucalyptus
Uh, just because. Nothing bad. Nothing special.

Haven’t done a 30 day in a while. It is time.
3.5 passes per my normal.
The Col. lacks the latitude of my fave soap. Liked it better ‘rich & thick’ than thinned.
Reminded again why Personnas are not my preferred blade. I compensated by giving special attention to 1) low blade angle and 2) to skin stretching.
My biggest educational gain from my very first rule was that ‘skin stretching rules’, a skill I was greatful to learn.
While my 3rd pass was ATG, this time I did not follow up ATG on the half cleanup pass. Maybe later.
A shave I wish I knew how to deliver myself many years earlier.
Reminicing on the New Year’s always brings back a weekly news column I started reading when I was a paperboy, called ‘the National Challenge’. Each week, the hosting correspondent posed a question for which the wittiest responses where published the next week. Many had interesting ties to that modern time. The keenest New Year’s Resolutions one year were 1) a resolve to discontinue cigar smoking under the smoke detector when his mother-in-law was in the tub, and 2) a very clear resolve to cease the polishing of pet rocks in his wife’s La Machine. I still chuckle at those.
Happy 2021 gang!
