SOTD SATURDAY MORNING, JANUARY 2, 2021

Went out for my first bike ride after having broken my ribs a month ago. I’m still pretty sore, but at this point in life for me, if I don’t use it, I’ll lose it! It was just a local 10 mile loop, but it felt like 50 after not having ridden since the accident. My shave on the other hand was glorious, and readily lifted me out of cycling exhaustion! The Simmons Hardware 4/8 really holds an edge. Two sessions last night on the pasted strops and one on leather brought it right up to snuff. The mug shave was by the numbers and returned me to that wonderful sense of smooth we all enjoy in this great hobby. The LaResche 51 sealed the deal in its usual exemplary dome-clearing fashion. It’s really a shame LaResche no longer makes safety razors, because my two are easily amongst my best dome shavers. I feel refreshed, clean and smoothly velveteen.

RAZOR: Simmons Hardware 4/8 (Mug), LeResche 51 (Dome)
    BLADE: Feather DE
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a scrub with Argan Oil
    BRUSH: Omega Pro48 Boar
    SOAP: Mitchell’s Wool Fat
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by Humphreys Lilac WH and Osage Rub.

Fine shave Dave! That's a shame the razor head is misaligned. I hate when seller's don't fully disclose any issues an item has. Have a great day!

That's an awesome set up guaranteed to deliver great shaves, Frank. Most here believe that technique trumps tools. :happy088:

Everyone has different preferences, and some enjoy collecting and using a variety of gear. A couple of guys here kinda went nuts, but most of them are just a few bricks shy of a full load.

By the way, I can go for minimalism as long as you have plenty of coffee and ice cream (not necessarily in that order) in the house. ;)

Awesome shaves, Jeff! That's great you were able to ride your bike. In a few more weeks, your ribs will be completely healed and you can go full blast without any pain.

Happy New Year, Myles! Nice shave with great products. We all have an off-shave from time to time, no worries.

My brother-in-law loves to read Stephen King. Hope you enjoy the mini-series.

Fine shave this morning. Barbasol works best, I find, when it is held under hot tap water for maybe 5 seconds. That way there's a better chance of the cream oozing out in the shape of a cloud-which is what you want. I'm not saying a squiggly snake shaped cream will ruin the shave, but the latter is more of a nuisance. Anyway...good face/neck coverage. One pass, as that is all I do for creams/foams. I did well on the cheeks&sideburns. Not as well from N.Porcupine Alley on down south to Cactus Nation(meanning some areas were a success, others weren't as much). But that's the difference between creams/foams and brushes/shave soap. Still it's nice once in a while to do a cream shave. The Rise balm is always good for softness, but for some reason there wasn't much scent to it this morning. I should have shaken it more. The once thing I didn't want to do is use too much. I did that once, and the man from North-Southeast Kentucky did a post of a mime person.....he was right, that's what I looked like! I'll say Very Excellent for this shave, especially since at least I had no Cuts/Knicks(that's always nice!!).
