How did the Wilkinson Sword Black Tub lather? Heard it doesn't lather as well as the Blue Tub. Wondering how true that is.

Well not being an experienced user of shaving pucks I have nothing else to compare it to. This Wilkinson soap is the first I've ever used and I got it because it was cheap and readily available at my local Walmart. I watched some YouTube videos on how to load the brush to get a decent lather out of it for a first pass. I then then load the brush again and apply again for a second pass. The brush is also new with only a couple of uses so that may also be a factor. I also let the bowl/puck thing sit in warm water while I am showering to soften it up a bit before using it. Maybe that helps? This is the only soap I will be using for the 30 day rule so hopefully I'll better at it. :happy102:

All that being said it does make a lather but whether it's the best lather I don't know however for what it does it does it well. It looks to me like any other shave soap lather I have seen other's use on their YT shave channels and it feels nice on my face and I don't feel any skin irritation using it. I also like it's fresh smell after using it. I know some folks have said that the ingredients can cause problems for some people's skin but for me it's not the case. As always with these things...you're mileage may vary.

    Happy New Year to all!

Here is my first Gillette shave of the New Year! Also my kit for the rest of the month so enjoy the pic. :happy102:

1955 Gillette flare tip speed razor, Wilkinson Sword soap & brush, Skin Bracer AS.

Not much to get excited about but we have to start somewhere? :lyrtuy5: Skin Bracer is what my dad used and what I have used forever so I'm partial to it's feel and smell. If I want a more cologne scent I will use the Aqua Velva Musk scented after shave. I'm like...why fix things that ain't broke? As a beginner I also like using this soap and brush as it wasn't expensive and easy to find. For me that's really the point. To use everyman products off the shelf that are cost effective yet do a good job. I am sure there's better products out there. One day I will try them but right now I am pretty darn impressed with this simple kit.

I must say the razor is the best one in my small collection. Paired with the Shaverboy blade it's an excellent combination for a newcomer to DE razors like myself. I look forward to many more years of fine shaves with this razor. :happy088:
