SOTD MONDAY MORNING, JANUARY 4, 2021

Woke up to a dreary, cold day here in the Philly burbs. The shave this morning was anything but dreary. It was time to kick it up a notch, as Emeril Lagasse used to say! The straight razor selected for this morning, the Lord 5/8 is one of those razors whose manufacturer is all but lost to history, but the product is just a great shaver. The 316L SS Rearden Razor Tuxedo synth generated the kind of slick, thin MWF lather I love for my mug shave this morning. It’s a hefty brush weighing in at just under a lb., and just a great lather generator. The Lord sported the great Naniwa 12k and jasper stone, buttery smooth edge I’ve put on all my straights. The resulting mug shave was a foregone velveteen smooth conclusion. The dome shave featured the second of two LeResche safety razors I own, the LeResche 77. It sailed through the yogurty MWF lather carpet like the Romans through the Sabine women and left your happy narrator cool, clean and velveteen smooth.

RAZOR: Lord 5/8 (Mug), LeResche 77 (Dome)
    BLADE: Feather DE (2)
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a scrub with Argan Oil
BRUSH: Rearden Razor 316L SS Tuxedo Synth
    SOAP: Mitchell’s Wool Fat
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by Humphreys Lilac WH and Osage Rub.

Yes, Dave, the geometry is identical! One can swap parts between steel, brass and aluminum. :)

Fabulous shave, soon-to-be MOLC member! Love the scales on that ERN! Reminds me of the scales on some classic pocket knives like Case and Rooster! Enjoy your day, and stay safe, my friend! :)
