SOS: January 2021

A newly restored, and honed razor, made in Germany, for the French market. I had on of the sharpest and smoothest 2 pass shaves, in a long time, that resulted in a BDBS shave. Zero issues from this razor. BTW, I finished this on a new stone I received from England, by way of Scotland, an Eschers Thuringian stone.

Razor- "Charlior". E.M.D.E.factory, Germany. Feels like Swedish Silver Steel.
Brush- An @oscar11 creation. Synthetic knot. Wonderful brush.
Soap- ARKO.
Aftershave- Florida Water.

Eigengrau is as-advertised. It opens with a decidedly accurate icy, clean air essence that's immediately sweetened by iris but on a muted level. It's difficult to ascertain when the frigid air ends and the slightly camphorous fir needle takes over. The cold air narrows the dynamic of the fir in much the same way actual cold air numbs one's olfactories such that there's not much green or woods accompanying the fir needle. It's all grounded in a dry clean earthiness with subtle muskiness. This fragrance smells like a real place. It's so frigid in its characteristics, I expect to feel a chilling effect à la Terror, but there is none. It's quite mysterious in that respect. That said, Eigengrau is in good company with Barrister and Mann's Terror and First Snow. The last element to fall away is the iris, but I hesitate to call this one a floral. By the nature of the fragrance and the balm medium, I lose track of it after about 90 minutes.

***EDIT - 1 pass + sectional clean up. 10/10 excellent shave. I had to go with a fresh blade and I'm glad I swapped to a new one. BBS! And with very little effort. I didn't have to chase even a little. Virtually no sting on the splash. And Tam Dao EDP is the best sandalwood scent ever. I love how there is a fresh cedar fused into the sandalwood. I didn't even use any pre-shave oil. The soap's lather got the job done amazingly. It's one great hard soap.

Brush : Frank Shaving 24mm Synthetic.
Bowl Lather.
Tesco's Ceramic 'Cosmo' Side Bowl.
Lather: OSP ~ Grapefruit & Menthol Shaving Cream.
Blade: Tiger Platinum. (3)
Razor: FaTip Grande.

Post:
